worried about potencial bug problems

Discussion in 'Sick Plants and Problems' started by seedling4life, Sep 26, 2007.

  1. I just started with my first grow, and I have them on jiffy pellets, they have been there for less than 2 weeks and when I turn the fan off for a little while, little black flies and a tiny bettles appear, they are kind of yellowish brown, I doubt that they came with the pellets, so I have no idea where they are coming from; the only thing I can think of is that they are coming from worm humus which I used to top 1 of the plants as an experiment to see if there was any difference in growth.

I killed them all, there were only a few and I am leaving the fan on, I have not seen them anymore, but I don't want to have this problem once I transplant them.
I assume that when they get big, I'll have millions of them so I want to make sure that doesn't happen, any ideas will be greatly appreciated.

I'm also in the middle of the rain forrest, I keep the windows closed, but I don't know if they are finding another way in.

Is there any way to test the worm humus for bugs? If I put that in a cup and cover it and let it sit under the light, will the bugs come out?

  2. you most likely didnt kill all the eggs , Id treat with Neem Oil , add a couple teaspoons Neem Oil to your water & water the soil well

  3. thanks for the suggestion, but is it safe to put that in them now?, they germinated 1 week ago and right now the 2nd set of fan leaves is coming out.
