Why the anger towards rap?

Discussion in 'Music genres, Bands and Artists' started by roKa420, Mar 20, 2006.

  1. I don't attack it, I just feel as if the newer rap lacks talent all together. Tupac was damn talented-there is no denying that. Jay-Z also has much talent, but others like 50 Cent and Black Eyed Peas aren't anything special. I can't stand that same old rap story. "I was born in the hood. I was selling crack at the ripe old age of seven. I got shot nine times when I was 17 and now I can rhyme words and create over-rated beats." That stuff is not good, but there are great rappers out there who deserve more credit than given. But, yes, it is very wrongfully pre-judged.

  2. True story.

And i laugh out loud when i see a guy(Nukka) wearing skin tight jeans, A black hoodie or black anything on top. His hairs dyed black. His back half which half of it is died pink and like a 1/4 of the other side which is grown about 2 inches longer then the rest of his hair is blonde. Then his very front is purple. I laugh about that. I see cuts on his wrists, I see his earings, I see his chains dangling from his pants, His converase shoes, I laugh at him. He thinks hes so original blah blah blah. Except people have been doing the same since the 80's nukka.

I grew up in the 'hood.' Southwest Detroit. Vernor and Springwells for those in the know. And at times the east side at joy road and 7 mile. Also down on layfeyette and spiringwells.

Those the fucking hood. Last summer, We had a block part, One block only, For vernonr and springwells. Well, Its the hood remeber this.

Well we was bar be cuing on a homemade girll, Made out of a steel barrel cut in half.

Well fired chickens done right, What happens, One nukka take the biggest peice of fried chicken, Other dude sees it and gets pissed and confronts him.

Ends up dude taking the big peice of chicken lied dead in the street, While the dude who killed him at the chicken then left.

    Thats the hood, Thats reality.

Some people understand where the rap music comes from, Some faksta's fer sure, But a hood nukka can tell whats fake and whats not.

I listen to mainley only rap.

Some mainstream shit, But old 2pac, Dre, Master P, 504 Boyz, C-Murder, Lil Troy, Snoop ect.

Then mainley undergound shit like the Street Lordz (From Detroit), Esham (From Detroit), K-Deezy (From Detroit), Ol Eminem (From Detroit), Juan (From Detroit), Chedda Boyz (From Detroit),

Alot of other undergounrd like Short Dawg, From H-Town but always in Detroit. Imortal Techniuque, Necro, All types of shit.

  4. I will listen to some rap, but after a while all the beats just blend together and it gets irritating to listen. One reason why I'm not a big rap fan is because they're not really singing. There are some tough rhymes out there, but just about everyone can rap. Memorize some lines that rhyme, add a beat, and away ya go.

I also enjoy listening to artists who play instruments. I like bands, I like when lead singers sing and play guitar or whatever.

Sometimes rap is just nonsense, as far as the lyrics go. They just add things in there to make it rhyme or keep the beat going, when they're not really saying much of anything.

Another thing that kinda bothers me about rap is that everyone is always collaborating with other people. I've seen rap concerts on tv and there's like 50 people on stage, about 8 with microphones, and most of them are just walking around, moving to the beat of the music, occasionally yelling "Put yo hands in da air!" or something similar. I know bands and other artists often collaborate with other talented people, but c'mon... When you've got a song done by so many different artists you can't even remember who's rapping, well...

  5. Well said. (Didn't see this until after I posted.)

  6. hahahahahahaha +rep.

  7. i think we can all pretty much agree that about 90% of mainstream hip hop sucks balls. all rap on mtv is just talking about how gangster you are/how many Gs you stack/how many hoes u fuck/how you are better than another rapper. anyone can make a fucking rap song but it takes years to learn how to play a musical instrument or compose good music.
Im not saying that all rap sucks, lets not forget andre nickatina, afroman (he actually plays musical instruments), dr. dre, keak da sneak, tech n9ne, and mac dre (good beats)

  8. To be blunt, I think a few of you that posted are idiots, but there's no need to name anyone specifically.

Rap and Hip Hop are not the same, and most of the people in here talking shit about "rap" have only been exposed to the terrible pop club songs you hear on shitty Clear Channel radio and see on MTV.

There are a ton of extremely talented musicians (yes, I said musicians) in Hip Hop, just as there are those with no talent. This is the same in any genre of music.

Hip Hop is an art form, and there are many musicians within it. Those of you who say Hip Hop artists are not musicians clearly have no idea whatsoever the skill it takes a producer/DJ to put together complex, intricate beats. Of course, there are many songs you hear on the radio and see on tv which are extremely simple, but again this occurs within all genres. For the most part, the mass media is filled with bubblegum pop. Simple-structured music and weak, uninspired, childish lyrics.

There's a new topic -- lyrics. Lyricists without a doubt are artists and musicians. There are Hip Hop artists out there that have mastered the English language so well that it can be called nothing less than poetry. They would make some of the people here look like little kids when comparing vocabulary and writing flair. I strongly appreciate talented writers. I prefer lyrics to be intelligent, creative, and meaningful. I am talking about in all music. This is why I can not stand listening to the shitty college frat boy rock that is so popular nowadays... it used to be nu-metal, and now the frat boys are all into that fake-emo boy band bullshit. The lyrics are absolutely terrible. I need substance and style.

Anyways, I am going to stop rambling, but I had to stick up for a genre of music that many people are completely uneducated about. I am passionate about music, and I listen to a LOT of very different kinds of music. Check out some of the other threads if you care to see what else I am into.

  9. a woman came into my work yesterday and Power 106 (big rap station here in LA) was on and asked us to turn it down...i did out of respect for our customers.

then she had the audacity to tell us that we shouldnt listen to that "crap" that we should listen to music that "says something".

she obviously didnt know what she was talking about and was generalizing rap and Hip Hop.

i should have turned her onto dead prez, IT, Common, Sabac, 2Mex etc etc.

  10. all i kno is...2pac is da shit!!!!!

  11. bump.

oh, and the whole thing about "the hood" and someone being killed is just ignorant. anyone who would kill someone over a piece of fucking chicken doesn't need to be on the streets in the first place.

  12. Sounds like you're describing an emo kid... they ARE funny... hehe... I hope the implication isn't that it's rap or that... really I do...

    And your point is?

  13. [IMG]

Edited to add: This is not me, just in case anyone thinks it is.

  14. haha.....its funny you say that shit man. it makes me think of 2 different eminem songs... one where he's like " you want me to whatch my mouth, how? take fucking eyeballs out and turn them around" hahah.. and also in another eminem song where's he's like "will smith doesn't have to cuzz to sell rhymes, well i do, so fuck him and fuck you too"

the language and everything else people might not like bout rap is just a part of it so if you don't like it quit crying and listen to something else. even know not all rappers do everything they rap about, some do.. there are rappers that take their drug money and buy copies of there own cd, to boost there album on the charts.... for real the rap industry is run like the mob no joke.

  15. man r u trippin? 50 cent is too a good rapper....and black eye'd peas...how you gonna talk about them, there is a lot of musical talent in that group, plus, they tend to get audiences besides just rap/hip-hop fans.

  16. i say leave this subject alone and let it be those who dislike the music form obveously dont see anything past mainstream, im a huge underground hip-hop fanatic and its what gets me through my day, most people that meet me never know what music i listen to and get completly thrown off it is what it is

  17. I totally understand where KSR is coming from. I live like the next town over from the hood and some of my best friends live there. Shit is crazy and it really makes you understand rap and get where its coming from. I went from metal and all types of rock and now i listent to all types of rap.

some of my favs are Immortal technique, alot of Dipset stuff alot of other political and ''mainstream'' rappers.

  18. see its a whole different mentality most people who dislike rap are people who cannot relate or understand the music it is what it is, growing up in inner city america in low income public housing projects or run down neighbor hoods comes with a whole new set of rules to life, someone in a home with 8 brothers and sisters and one income have to fight and scheme more for there slice of the pie im not saying this is a direct reflection on the situation im just spit balling ideas ive gone from homeless shelter in georgia to rich town in maine and now back to georgia ive seen the difference in people and how location/lifestyle can make the difference. The only thing i can see that will change this is education i see people in poor areas make poor decisions due to lack of education.

  19. I think that there are a lot of different kinds of rap, there are those with true lyricial talent and those that are the "Yo i sell crack and fuck bitches, sell crack and fire gats." There are a lot of talented rappers out there that rap about more than the typical rapper, love, politics, morals, emotions.

I hate the mainstream rap, especially crunk, but I love a lot of other rap/hip-hop like A tribe Called Quest, Blackalicious, Brother Ali, Cunninlynguists, Common, Jurassic 5, AZ, Mos Def, Sweatshop Union, Blue Scholars.

  20. Who said 50's not sick have you heard his songs coming from a rapper/producer he's good "Nobody Likes Me" is one of his better songs.

And who said the black eyed Peas arent good that boy Will I Am is a monster in the studio, and who said Rappers arent musicians cause your right there not there Lrycist/Poets the Producers are the ones that are the Musicians(Dr Dre,Swizzy,Premier,Alchemist).

Also dont blame Hip Hop for is commercialism and lack of substance these past few years blame the market, cause people dont wanna hear about the rapper who didnt dropout of highschool, doesnt sell crack, doesnt objectify women, isnt a Pimp and is drug free cause thats boring.

Rememeber its all Entertainment give Hip Hop a chance:D (Stillmatic is a must album to get started or anything from Nas)
