which came first the chicken or the egg

My turn.

Something that was destined to become what we now call a chicken came first. Then it evolved to lay eggs, then it did so. Then we argued about it. I mean how could an egg come out of nowhere? The answer, or the gist of it atleast, should be pretty obvious.
