What kinds of setups are out there? I've got: 2.0GHz Pentium 4 (Socket 423 unfortunately, so no upgrading. ) AOpen ax4t motherboard. Not that that matters. WD 120GB 7200RPM primary hard drive Hitachi 400GB secondary HD (for all my multimedia) Pioneer 4X DVD burner TDK VeloCD 40/12/48 CD burner ATi Radeon 9550 256MB Video Card Creative Audigy 2 ZS Platinum soundcard. Antec case. 450 Watt power supply to run it all. Generic floppy drive that destroys any floppy that's put in it. (Edit): Damn, forgot the RAM - 512MB PC800 RDRAM

Yeah, homebuilt is best. I've gone through two soundcards and three videocards before I got the ones I'm using now. Some broke, some I just didn't like or upgraded. Try doing that with an off the shelf computer with a proprietary hardware setup.
The laptop (the broken piece of crap I can only run linux from a live CD on) is a P4 1.4. The desktop has celeron 1.7 socket 478 cheap dvd player cheap cd-rw 512 megs of ram (gonna upgrade to ddr eventually) ati radeon 9550 SE d-link wireless card 60 GB hard drive I really don't remember the brands of most of the parts b/c I had a friend at Computer Renaissance build it for me cheap a couple years ago. I keep thinking about upgrading it, but I'm also thinking about building a new computer next fall and just making the desktop a linux box. If I do it will probably just be server for the projector a friend and I are going to build and allow us to coordinate all of our music through one stereo in the living room. Plus, I'll be able to program on it. It's a pain in the ass to do Unix systems programing in Windows. At least I can run linux on the laptop.
its a shuttle so that explains why it aint that great AMD athlon 2500XP+ 1GB pc3200 ram 160GB 7200rpm hd 128MB radeon 9200 cd-rw/dvd combo getting an alienware later this year for uni tho!!!

I want to upgrade the CPU, Ram, DVD-Rom and Burner. The rest of the stuff is brand new. Costing me about $1500. In the end the system will cost me about $2100, by the time it's finished, much of it will be out of date. The Soundcard already is.
AMD 2800 1gb of corsair 3200 radeon 9800 pro raptor 36gb HD @ 10000rpm thats pretty much the only good things in my comp
I would love a raptor HD. I keep going to alien ware and setting up computer. A couple raptors in a RAID configuration would be awesome.
Lol mines pretty shit, but it does the job. Pentium III Processor. 530mhz 512mb ram. 80gb Hard drive. 16x Dual Layer Dvd/r Cd/r.. etc Drive - does everything. Some nice 6 channel video card for... ..5.1 Surround sound speakers. Plus some shitty video card, dusty case, and other crap thats in there. Lol, I remember when I had to install my sound card. There was this one screw that had got stuck, and there was no way to get it out to remove the casing. After hours of trying.....I took a hacksaw and cut the damn thing off! True computer hacking.....
Okay, beat this! -AMD K5 Processor @ 133mHz -Generic mobo -48x CD-Rom that sounds like a jet taking off it's so fucking loud -Generic floppy drive that works sometimes -32 Megs of RAM (no SD, no DDR, just ram.) -36.6kbps modem Other than that there's not much else. No sound card, generic, horrible video that only does up to 1024x768 in 256 colors, USB card because something's wrong with the ps/2 port and serial port. It rocks ass.
Damn kuso, that's some computer you've got there. Barely more powerful than my first POS Compaq. Pretty much an internet machine right?
jeez, my little brother doesn't even use the 233 MHz PII w/ MMX I left him when I first got the laptop and you're using a 133? I think it's getting close to time for an upgrade.

shit, 6 case fans? isn't that kind overkill? I mean, my 72 CFM input case fan is more than enough. Most of the time I just run my PCI card exhaust fan, unless I'm gaming.
Its been on my mind lately so I dont mind sharin.
