I belong to a photography forum, and have never seen anyone post spam. I belong to other forums too and not seeing this volume of spam. It seems like its getting worse? I know one forum I joined, you had to have x amount of replies before you were allowed creating a thread other the introduce yourself section. Be nice to not see the new thread section not be spam from top to bottom .
yep ,,the spam here on GC does seem a lot ,i dont see it on any other sites ,,but the guy today beats the other spammers ,man he was posting everywhere ,,,,at least hes gone now,,,mac
I belong to several sites and this one tops the list for spammers........it's a daily occurrence. I agree with @Headhunterpipes that there should be a way to stop them by requiring a certain amount of replies or even time requirements to start a thread.
interesting ....at first thought requiring a certain amount of replies before a new user is allowed to post could actually be counter intuitive and create more spam in active threads... someone that has gone through the trouble of creating an account because they want to market something won't be deterred by simple post thresholds.... likewise, if you don't have anything useful to say in a post but need to say something to get past the limitations that could also introduce more spam..
i had a verry small forum like 15 years ago. i added a word permission. first posts could not post if it included https. it got rid of all spam bot links and images. there is also the register process. you confuse the bot or you make it a little harder that a human spammer doesn't bother because they know soon their post will be deleted.
Now that's a neat and out of the box way to try and combat... Not 100% effective but pretty solid approach
