Weed Causing Cancer?

Discussion in 'Marijuana Consumption Q&A' started by HellaFlushJdm, Sep 3, 2013.

  1. So, like a lot of you guys out there, I smoke every damn day. It got the point where my throat started getting really irritated no matter what I smoked out of. A joint, a blunt, a bong, a vaporizer etc. I've been smoking for almost 3 years now. About a month and a half ago, my throat got so irritated I couldn't swallow my food very well, what set me off to go get it checked out was a swollen lymph node under my jaw. The doctor checked it out and said she 'think's' it's just a throat infection and should go away in a week or so. So I stopped for ahwhile and I have been clean now for about almost 3 weeks. I still have all these complications, It always feels like theres something stuck in my throat and every little while I have to cough to clear it. It gets to the point were I start coughing so hard that my larynx starts making a really weird noise, I could feel like the air go through it. So I looked it up and since weed has been illegal for so long, it's hard for scientists to actually do thorough experiments on it. They say that weed has many of the same chemicals found in tobacco but about 4 times the tar. My gland is still swollen and it's been much more longer than that week. I know it is from smoking because everytime I try to smoke it get's soo much worse. Should I go back to get it checked out again? Or will the doctor not pay any attention to me and say I'm just paranoid? It's just weird that I've quit and I still feel like this. I also cough up mucous sometimes with speckles of blood, but it was once. Those are symptoms of larynx cancer so it worries me, has anything like this happened to you guys?

  2. for about 3 weeks i had a really sore throat kinda like what you described but i kept toking and it hurt really bad and even worse when i coughed so i stopped for awhile and it eventually went away but if you are having blood in your mucus you should get that checked out it probably won't be cancer but it could be really damaged i hope it feels better soon though it really sucked for me

  3. vaporising is the least harmful way of smoking bud, i would say you should just go to the doctor because you cant stay like this, it sounds horrible! it could be that you'll find you have to stop smoking completely until it heals up (if it ever does), and if you do need to toke i would advise vaping because it doesnt contain all the harmful products you inhale when you burn it, i hope it isnt cancer or anything permanent

  4. Man your post is scaring me because something similar has been happening with me lately. I'd say the past 3 months or so, I've had this weird cough where I'm hacking up mucus and flem and shit. It hasn't gone away for the entire three months. It's not contagious as no one else around me has started coughing or anything. I was worried that it could have something to do with toking, but was hoping it was unrelated. I've been hoping it'll just go away but it hasn't yet and idk if I should go to the doctors and pay a bunch of money or just wait for it to go away.

When lymph nodes swell up its usually a sign that your emune system is fighting some sort of infection so i wouldn't worry about it.:D

  6. You had a inflammation in your throat and that's when the lymph node showed up. Just stop smoking for a little bit because the smoke will irritate your throat even more (Obv) and take antibiotics. I had the same problem last week and I took 3 pills that you take every 8 hours and on the 3rd day I could almost not even feel any pain.

  7. Don't be a quitter. Keep toking.

As for cannabis causing cancer, it is very unlikely! Why do I say that? Because of the scientific proof!

There is a Dr Tashkin, who started out trying to prove that cannabis could cause lung cancer, by the time he finished the study "Marijuana Use and the Risk of Lung and Upper Aerodigestive Tract Cancers: Results of a Population-Based Case-Control Study" (2006), he was having doubts about cannabis causing lung cancer.  The data he collected just did not support his original theory!

More than likely you just have a strep throat, or something similar. If you must use cannabis, vaping is easier on your throat and lungs than smoking. Edibles are even better!

Hon, rather than speculate about the health effects of cannabis, why don't you just send me an email (bottom of my sig) and i will send you back over 1,200 pages of links! Then, next time you have a worry, you can just look it up in the List! :yay:

  10. Bloody sputum (spitting up blood or bloody mucus) can come from common forms of infection in the lungs and airways, such as acute bronchitis or pneumonia.

Make some edibles they can actually help since pot opens up airways. And stay away from smoke.

  11. Smoking causes mucus in most people, it is very common to spit up mucus if you are a weed or tobacco smoker. Spitting up the mucus is better than the mucus staying in your lungs, which limits your lung function.

That's just the way she goes

Y'all niggas be postin' in a.......

  13. sounds like you got sick and paranoid, that's most likely it.

Unless you have a tape worm inside you that threatens your brain and your body is now so dependant on it you can't kill it.

  14. Yeah I guess it was unrelated and I was just sick, because it's gone away since I posted that and I've been smoking just as heavily.

This sounds more like an infection and it's very unlikely that you have cancer.  Cannabis has a lot of antitumor properties but one unfortunate side effect is that it DOES make us a little more prone to infection - http://marijuanaonthebrain.com/negative/marijuana-infections-immunity/

This is because it has an effect on our immune cells, specifically macrophages, making them a little less active in fighting off disease.  You're probably suffering from a bacterial infection because of the length, maybe you could benefit from an antibiotic.  Consider seeing a doctor again if it doesn't heal.  I would exercise for a while, hydrate yourself and take it easy on the herb and more importantly, don't think too much about it, the cancer thought is a paranoia and I don't think you have it.
