Watering in NY

Discussion in 'Growing Marijuana Outdoors' started by Konut, Apr 14, 2009.

  1. Hi everyone, I think I'm going to try growing for the first time this May. I think my site will be somewhere in the woods close to a stream, so water availability will not be an issue. However, I don't really know how often to water. Does anyone have any experience with growing/watering in midstate NY? Also, I'll take any other tips that you might have for a beginner that arn't included in the sticky.

  2. Watering depends on your soil mix, the sun exposition, the amount of rain you get esp. in the Fall (don't choose a water retaining soil mix if it rains a lot). But yes, it's important to have a water source before you choose your spots. Place finger in first inches and it should be dry before you water again.

What to add to the soil mix for a :

    - Dry region: add vermiculite, peat (they retain water). If your in the desert or can't water much, water crystals, a tarp lining the hole.
    - wet region: add perlite, builder's sand (they drain).
