Water Storage

  1. I've been reading up recently about the ecological issues that our planet faces, which is much more urgent than anything else. The most urgent of course is water supply.

Ecologists warn the planet is running short of water - Times Online

According to this we will reach ecological water peak. Which means that if you were in risk of running out of water, or having to pay much more money for water it would be logical to store it.

Does anyone know how you could store water for long periods of time in large amounts? It seems that storing water in plastic container, air sealed could last a while, but you run the risk with plastic having unknown effects at times on the water.

So what's the most viable way to store water for years?

This doesn't just apply to ecological breakdown either. Water storage would help if nuclear fallout ever occured, or even economical breakdown that could cause utter chaos if our systems brokedown.

Anyways, my main concern is storage of water, not these theories.
