Watching the matrix high right now, and thought I needed to voice my theory. Maybe Trinity is the one and maybe, when you die in the matrix you apparently die in real life, BUT what if when you die in the Matrix you actually wake up in real life from the dream you were in and in not know much from it. And maybe 'the one' is just a tradition they use to figure out if he's the one, because the whole time Neo has been on it all might just have been a training simulation and not actually real, but it's like a dream within a dream. All Just to find out if Neo is the one, and if he is or even if he isn't, there still will be a matrix 4,5,6 to find another version of 'the one' because neo didn't pass the training simulation because he died.
I know but it is still essentially a dream world, like Morpheus said how would you know the difference between the dream world and the real world
