I'm looking to make a mix that follows close to DOZ's, in order to start the little cuties… without having to spend money at Wal-Mart & use what I already have! As a "starter/seedling mix" could I just use: 2 parts EW 1.5 parts Peat 1 part Rice Hulls (2 TEASPOONS of Lime) Does this sound like a good germination mix?? ANY INPUT WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!
I try to keep my starter mix lighter than my regular mix, so the tender roots can easily expand. I keep it somewhere around 30/30/40%, or 25/25/50%, peat/EWC/aeration.
I'm wondering if the rice hulls are going to be too much on the little roots… I shouldn't think so… Also.. you don't really have to let this mix 'cook', correct? Just get it wet..?
