Hi everyone!! I started about the 23rd of dec with 12 sprouts, I went out of town and my friend killed all but one, that one is doing very well I transplanted her to my clone/mother bucket last night, she looks great. I am using 18g totes and 5g buckets. the buckets are the http://forum.grasscity.com/do-yourself/444974-lets-build-clone-machine-*step-step*.html props to Rumpleforeskin for the diy. the totes are pretty much the same design as anywhere you look so I will not get into them. for lights I will be using 1 400w hps with 42w cfls around to give a little extra light in the middle of the plants. using some of the diy pages here on GC for ideas, I made a cfl light fixture that at max capacity will run over 1000 actual cfl watts. but I made that before I got the 400w hps so I will use the cfl light for my clone/mother box. I am going to go take some pics so I will be back soon.
I know there is not much point in growing one plant, but, I wanted to make sure that the system would work.
High all, busy last few days, finished the clone box, started adding nutes @ 1/3 strength because the tips of the leaves were turning yellow. is this ok? the plant is 16 days old from seed. I started 11 more seeds of some chronic hopefully they will all sprout. I noticed today that there are little black spots on a few of the leaves, anyone know what caused them? also finished flower area what do you think?
High all, day 17, I moved the light up to about 20" off the plant I hope this will fix the rolling of the leaves. found one of those Japanese ladybugs crawling on the leaf and there was another black spot! its bug turds thats what the black spots are!!! should i get rid of the bug? I did not see any holes in the leaves from anything munching on them so I left the bug 8 of the 11 seeds popped wahoo I have a good feeling about them the Tupperware box that I was popping the seeds in smelled like super green I can't wait to smoke it. well I need to go clean up now that the room is just about done. I will take more pics once the room is clean. any feedback is greatly appreciated.
oh yeah, I forgot that I made a new bubble bucket last night. I was walking around at the local 24 super store at like 1 am and found this plastic file cabinet $6.99 and I bought 2 the first one I messed up and cut the holes in the wrong spot, I wanted the small indents to have a 3" net pot and the long indent to have the 2" ones but I got ahead of myself and screwed up. It still works with the 2" holes in the top but the next one will be right, glad I got 2. also I made some of iximindtrickixi's soda can reflectors http://forum.grasscity.com/do-yourself/174565-how-cheap-cfl-soda-can-reflectors.html they work great. Day 18, the plant is ok I think, the bottom set of leaves are dieing but the roots are going nuts quarter inch at least a day. the file cabs are doing great wish I had found them earlier. just got out of one job and going to the next in 20 mins. I know people are looking at my journal but no comments yet. I'm in for the long haul. the chronic seeds 10 popped out of 14 and still have a few left for next grow. though, I really want to just keep a mother to clone from. but I am unsure how soon I can tell if she is a she or not I know that they will shoot banana's out or grow the pollen sacs but at what time do they do it? before or after the time change? I try to read the other threads here, but its hard to search through all the unwanted info for the good stuff. three hours of reading on here does not sort through it all. my wife gets mad because I sit at my desk for hours reading and reading every night. hahaha gotta learn. well anyway as always Feedback is welcomed and I am looking forward to my first post from someone other then myself.
day 19, This morning the plant looks much better, leaves are turning up the water ph spikes over night to around 8.0 brought it back down to 5.0 - 6.0 need better meter roots are really looking good I will get some pics later of the roots and the up turned leaves the magic number is 6 inches from top of plant to cfl. my dog ripped the crap out of my hydroton bag that was in my garage I will be cleaning up orange clay balls for a month. well anyway as always Feedback is welcomed and I am looking forward to my first post from someone other then myself.
Hi there looks like you may have gotten things sorted out...what kind of meter are you using digital? and what kind of nutes are you using and how often are you changing the res? I also am in my first run with hydro and can not properly identify the pre-problem you were having....but did seem to be lacking in something....do you have new pics today?
Hi the nutes I'm using is GH 3 part flora, bloom, micro I have had the res up and running for 5 days so have not changed it yet 5-7 more days first then change. I am using a basic ph test kit looking at getting a digi one off amazon for $40. I think that most of my problem was that I was getting too high tech. basics then improve dont start out big. went to the hydro store to replace the hydroton, and picked up some rock wool starter plugs for the new seedlings 11 plants in all. super happy now that I am back up to my target for plants. and no more friend murdering them. and thanks for your questions NaughtyDread so here are todays pics bring on the porn!!
lol got the same lineup...and started i think about 5 days ago myself....yea get that digi meter asap it saves you a lot of headache...and i can see the lil one doing much better the top of her looks nothing like a couple days ago ...do you plan on changing them out of that res when you flower?
Yes she is looking way better. they all looked great when I left, I came back and they all but one had died. this is the first time that I think that she may pull through, but the other ones are doing well, I switched them from the coco to the rock wool they should be coming up in the next day or so. yes I plan to change them to 18 gallon totes for a two week perpetual grow two plants every two weeks on a ten week cycle, harvest two and add two every other week. any idea how soon to tell if she is a she?
yeah I made it before I got the hps, if I ever make a separate veg area I may bring it back to life. I cannibalized it to make a smaller one for my mother/clone/starter box. the small one will run about 500w if I maxed it out. you can see in the first two pic of my journal, I never maxed it out but if I wanted it would hold 42 23w cfl's and the 3 42w cfl's I had so all told around 1090 watts but that was before I found the hps for $75 bulb, ballast, and hood could not pass it up. here it at a little over 1/4 strength in the pic around 347w burning
maybe after I have a few grows down and a little more space, when I built it, I was planning on a different setup than I am currently using.
so exciting day 19, so very exciting my little girl is looking great today!!! the bottom leaves are almost dead but she is full into growth mode. I swear she grew half an inch last night. or maybe she looks bigger because she is not droopy anymore whatever the reason I am happy. and had to bring my other file box into operation for the new sprouts. I am testing the temp with the extra light see how it does. I know stop talking about them here is the porn!!!
I keep going to look at her I cant believe how much better she looks an old friend of mine told me that he always smoked with his plants, and I'm pretty sure it had more to do with the co2 he was breathing on them, but he always grew some really good stuff. so anyway thought I would show my pipe its glass/wood in some more pics, and close ups of my newest sprouts.
Day 20, the new sprouts are doing well 4 are visible in the pics, busy day today I need to go to the hydro store again for 2" net pots I guess I only bought 10 so I am short a few. I am trying to find a 2 7/8" hole saw but cant find one in the stores around here I dont want to buy it online, but its looking that that is what I am going to have to do. so here are today's pics
yea man she looks much better than she did a couple of days back! you have a dremel tool? should be able to cut your holes with that...
