I have a 400w mh for veg,people are telling me this will be too much for the girls even if I have it farther away. Opinions welcome,sarcasm isn't.
I read HPS is better for flower MH is for veg. So your MH is good for Veg. I dont see why 400w would be bad? I use a 400watt HPS just fine, when I first got it I was surprised I could put it much closer than I read I could online. (not as much heat output as I thought) imho you should be fine.
It can be if it's too close. With a decent distance it should be fine. I'd say about a foot away from seedlings would be close enough. I've had better luck sprouting seeds under florescent light, but metal halide works too. The whole sarcasm thing kind of makes you sound like a prick though.
