True statements

Discussion in 'Philosophy' started by g0pher, Jul 13, 2009.

  1. The discussions of a few threads have led me to ponder again the nature of truth..

What is it for a statement to be true?

  2. A statement is true if within a coherent structure of knowledge it describes a phenomenon that can be verified and predicted by the application of a method.

Language becomes coherent when it is like math and represents the highest form of reason. As a result truths become nothing more than definitions.

But the hidden agenda is that reason becomes primary and experience secondary. This creates a dichotomy that causes many symptoms of angst.
