Trichs tell you when they are ready. The strain gives you the type of buzz you get. Indys give you that sink into the couch feeling and Sats give you the heady feeling.
^Both are correct. You can change the high by picking at different times but it has to be within it's normal range. You can't make a Sativa high with an Indica, but you can give it less of a couchlock by picking earlier with more cloudy trichs. Usually rule of thumb is 15% amber and it's ready(25% if you want heavy couchlock, any longer and it will degrade potency).
