Traffic Stop Leads to Drug Bust

A simple traffic stop turned into a big drug bust for Rutherford County deputies.

Deputy Christian Wrather stopped a car on Interstate 24 early Friday morning.

He reported some suspicious packages in the car. When he called for back-up the car sped away.

During the chase, the people in the car started tossing out the packages, police said.

Police said the packages turned out to be bales of marijuana. Police recovered about 140 pounds of the drug. The estimated the value of the drugs at $256,000.

Police caught up with the suspects, Anthony Christian and Leo Taylor, on State Route 840 and arrested them. Both men were from Indiana.
