Topping

Discussion in 'First Time Marijuana Growers' started by HollowFerg, Aug 1, 2019.

  1. ok everyone has been telling me that I should top my plant for more bud sites. So what would be the best method of toppings? Other than the pinching from the middle method because my fingers are to big for that

  2. It depends on your set up. How much space you have, your available height, and the light you're using

But you could prune it down and leave 6 strong branches and you probably won't go far wrong. Usually the bottom 2 or even 4 branches may not be worth keeping so cut those off if that's the case. But keep them if they're growing well. Count 3 pairs of nodes up leaving you 6 branches and cut the main stem just above the 3rd pair.

The 6 remaining branches may need some tieing to position them better but often they don't

  3. I’m using a 3 gal bucket and I started flowering it yesterday I switched the lighting to a 12/12 and changed the light spectrum to hid lighting

  4. Cut her down to third node and train for what works best for your space man

  5. I’m not sure wym by third node like going up or down maybe if I upload a picture of it from the side you could tell me an exact cut?

  6. An I started flowering it yesterday would that be a problem or no?

  7. Yea you prolly dont wanna do no topping at this time then she needs to be stress free other than a defoliation man

    • Agree Agree x 1
  8. So just leave her be now?

  9. Don't top it while it's flowering, use lst or as a last resort supercropping. Cutting stuff off now isn't going to have enough time to recover

    I certainly would

  10. Ok what is lst?

  11. It stands for Low Stress Technique, and it's all about bending the plant over and tying it down to widen and even the canopy out

Is this your only plant? What is the wattage of your light? How much available height do you have?

  12. Yea it’s my only plant I had 2 but the first one died off because all I had it in was soil the roots had clunked up and the wattage of my light is 23w 1600 lumens and as in height I’ve got plenty of height

  13. You said you are using hid lighting, you can't get 23w hid lights

You aren't going to get any bud with 1600 lumens man, you want 10x that

  14. Exactly what type of lights?

  15. There are many options, it depends on how much you're willing to spend, and how much space you have, and how good your exhaust fan is

  16. I have plenty space and any suggestions where I could buy them from

  17. I would look at Mars Hydro's new line of white LEDs, and quantum boards. This is the cheapest light I can recommend Mars TS 1000 Quantum Board Led Grow Light - Mars Hydro for sale, buy Mars TS 1000 Quantum Board Led Grow Light - Mars Hydro - Mars Hydro

That's 150w and about a billion times more energy efficient than your 23w CFL. You could get 10 ounces from that light, although half that is probably more of a practical goal for a beginner

    There's this too
Wholesale Kingbrite 2019 hot sale Samsung lm301h with red 660 qb288 v3 quantum board led grow light with potentiometer From m.alibaba.com

This one is 240w so a fair bit more powerful, more light, but more heat. If you can control the heat then you'll likely get a bigger yield

  18. 10 ounces from the 150w? And thanks for the links

  19. Yes but that's with getting everything spot on, it's not a realistic goal unless you've been growing for a while already.
I have the 250w version (Mars SP-250) and the first time I used it I got 14.6 oz and the second time I got 14.2 oz. My third time I was breeding so the weight is irrelevant. I'm just starting my fourth run now
I can't recommend the Mars SP-250 LED enough but it's a bit more expensive than the one I linked you to
