Great selection! I think my favorite out of those would have to be Buell Kazee - The Wagoner's Lad (Loving Nancy).

p.s. How many philistines do you think inhabit this forum? :p

EDIT: Hmmm, perhaps it is a tie between The Wagoner's Lad and the Drunkard's Special...

  5. I'm not sure how much we're gonna hit on, here. Electronic dance music and hip hop are the dominant music forms on this board. Also, thanks! I've been listening to American folk music heavily the last few months and I've fallen in love with the humanity of it. "Drunkard's Special" was the first folk song that really opened my ears.

  6. That Frankie and Albert has always been my favorite version, nice choice! And John the Revelator is probably my favorite song by Rev. Johnson.
    Here's some more for ya!

If you guys like what I've posted, you should check out the Anthology Of American Folk Music, edited by Harry Smith. It blew the doors of perception right off my brain. Anyway..

Somehow makes me 'miss' a time I wasn't even around for. I can just imagine how mind blowingly fresh this kind of thing might have sounded when it came out. Still sounds it today. That's the thing about great music, it doesn't really age. All the emotion and beauty is still right there!

bioshock fans would of heard this

  10. I know what you mean. Listening to the folk music I've posted makes me homesick for the Appalachian mountains, and I'm not even from there. My ancestors on one side were though, so it's almost like I can feel their blood in my veins. Haunting is what it is.

  11. Speaking of old folk music that makes you feel homesick i haven't been back to Ireland in ages
