Hey GC this will be my 3rd grow. I use only CFL's lights and a bookcase for a cab. There will be lots of photos and updates i will try to keep up as often as i can. All posts, suggestions, comments, ideas, and constructive criticism is more than welcome here. Now let the fun begin!!!
Here is the bookcase i will be using and the 7 seeds i started germing 24hrs ago and should be ready to plant tom.
Now for my set-up i will be using this as a veg chamber and the other half of the bookcase to flower. SOIL fox farm ocean forest soil 20% MG Perlite mixed in LIGHTS 12-26watt 6500k CFL bulbs that are pumping out 19,200 lumens total NUTES fox farm trio( Grow Big,Big Bloom, and Tiger bloom) I also will be running a test with 1/2 plants receiving SuperThrive STRAINS all bagseeds but very promising ones from what was said to be Purple Urkel by the grower but all are not the same this should be full of surprises along the way i used the paper towel method to germ with a water superthrive mix in a plastic baggie that i put on top of my water heater to germinate. I have cut holes in the bottom of my 16 oz. Solo cups i will be using as pots for the first week or two depending on growth.
Thanks for stopping by Alt im super pumped to be working with all Fox Farm products info will be so much easier to find this go round. Should be a blast growing with ya to im sure i'll pick some more tips and tricks up from you. Hopefully i can do the same for you as im feeling pretty confident with my green thumb and have spent endless hours researching every aspect of growing but nothing beats the experience i've gotten from the previous grows...havent exactly set a yeild goal yet for this grow but that will come soon. What are you thinking for veg. length time???? I'm leaning towards 30 days plus at the moment and topping all sativas at their fifth node.
That Fox Farm soil is delightful stuff. We are going to have a blast. There are few things more fun than growing weed with friends on GC. Me neither. My personal consumption needs are pretty modest and I only have a few friends who smoke. Whatever comes of this will be plenty, as far as I'm concerned. I have an irrational fear of tall plants, born of growing with CFLs & LEDs, perhaps, and I have never grown a sativa dominant strain. There is really so much that I haven't done yet when it comes to growing. I truly consider myself a beginner. Anyway, my initial inclination was to skip veg entirely and go straight to 12/12, keeping them in small pots, thus eliminating plant height as a concern. But I've since been talked in off the ledge at least a little bit. I've got a decent amount of headroom in there, none of the plants I'll be growing will be of the bat shit insane sativa variety. (That's for later.) So I have amended my plan a bit: minimal veg time in two gallon pots. Every plant gets topped at the 5th leafset. The goal is six plants, six different strains, flowering simultaneously. So far, I have two seeds in coco: a Big Buddha Blue Cheese and a Female Seeds Black Widow. The Blue Cheese is an indica dominant plant. No height issues there. I may veg her for a few weeks, but she's not getting a bigger pot so I won't go too long. I'll get more seeds going over the next several days. I like to ease into these things. And that little grow plan I just outlined, ruminated over for months, will fly right out the window almost immediately. I may decide to keep some of these plants as mothers and flower clones. Or just veg them a bit more to get some clones for mothers. Trying to keep mothers is another thing that I haven't done yet. I have a new light, strains I've never grown before. So I don't know what's coming. I'm just going to hang on and enjoy the ride. Here we go.
indeed i have the same thoughts and concerns with mine because i never know what is gonna pop up Che Che and Madosa are of a very sativa dominate strain and i let them veg for 30 days and if che che wasnt LSTed she'd only be about 3-4 ft tall but they also arent bushy at all so i could get something im not ready for send me for a couple loops but thats the fun in bagseed i've come to enjoy. i really hope i get an indica plant this time thats female in which case the 30+ veg time would come into effect...only time can truly tell i guess gotta love the suspense oh and by all means i think of myself no where near a professional just that i got the basics down therefore i will be able to lower my limiting factors and get the most out of my grow. One goal i have set it to have at least 1 "undamaged" plant meaning no def's or burns<---- Thats my serious face this grow i would like a nice total yield from to hold me over as thus might be my last or second to last grow for a little bit due to lease being up but thats not till may so no worries yet
You and me both. One way to dial it in so that the whole grow is smooth sailing from start to finish is to grow the same plant over and over again with clones. I grew out the same LSD plant five times. After the first two, I was on automatic pilot. I got bored. But this grow is going to be all surprises. It could get ugly. It's going to be fun.
todays update 5 out of the 7 i germed were ready this morning after only 36 hrs in the paper towel. So today i got my soil mixed up and a layer of extra perlite covering the bottom of each cup. Its also a little hot in my cab so i used a toothpick and dug about inch down this time. The other 2 seeds that havent cracked yet should do so in the next couple of days. If they dont crack 2 more will replace them I placed bags over the cups to act as a humidity dome and placed them about 10 inches from my lights until they break the surface. Right now 3 outta the 5 will be getting SuperThrive the other two will not the entire grow. See if this stuff is half as good as they say it is right now im using the drop per gallon formula
can't wait for a couple days to pass so i can get my first look at these babies. Come on Indica female
all in all today was a good day got everything planted had a temp problem got up to 95 but i rigged the intake so its bringing in air from outside and now temps are 88 also the humidity is a little low at 25% but i have the domes on and figure it will go up on its own very soon tom i might switch the bags out for plastic wrap to get a tighter seal.other then that i got my timer set for 18/6 and am just waiting for some heads to pop up just harvested some of my first girl check out my sig. some nice porn shots Tom light proofing is the name of the game
Didnt get much done today had to deal with a diff issue today but temps are better holding at 89 i seen a little soil lifting up on one so i think well see our first head tom heres what its looking like The other two seeds still have not popped thats about it for today lets get some comments guys
Hey, area 51. You've got some tap roots peeking out there. It looks like you are on your way. It seems like you have a little heat issue. If you can increase the airflow through that cab, you'll have it licked. 89 degrees is still a bit high. It's not too, too high. It's inside the zone for germination, but at the top edge of the zone. But it's outside the happy zone for plants, which tops out at 86, so it will be a stress factor going forward. Actually, if you unscrew one bulb for the time being, your temps will probably drop several degrees. I came home to discover a couple of new seedlings tonight. I've got my grow on. I guess tomorrow evening I'll get a new journal started. Here we go.
only during the hottest part of the day is it that hot likw right now its only 70 in there got two heads popping out so i now have 2 Seedlings myself today you decided on a name yet??
Excellent! No, but I have a long list of choices from which to pick. I'll make my selection this afternoon.
DAY 2 i now have 4 seedlings the two other seeds still have not germed yet so i put them in a cup of water today they sank straight to the bottom they are still really hard so im hoping this method will work better for them in just a few days the fun is really gonna start
so as i stated before i am running a test with and with out Superthrive added to the regular feedings if it makes a difference although i'll need to run this 2 more times before it becomes a fact that i live by i think its a pretty solid thesis now that Superthrive does help in the germination stage. all 3 of the seeds i gave it to in the initial watering popped above soil a day or two in one case before the 2 that did not receive it. again there are way to many variables like seed genes, age, and health for this to be any way conclusive i do however believe that at this stage the breaking of soil and growth over the next week is a good way to judge root development and overall health of the plant. thoughts on this so far guys i'm I being subjective???
