The 11th dimension

    anyone know anthing about string theory or parallel universes? I've been thinking about these things latley. Anyone explore deep subjects like this latley?

    I used to read about this kind of thing all the time when I was younger. Not so much anymore, but it' still interesting to me.
    If you haven't seen it already I would highly recommend the PBS show The Elegant Universe.

    There is also a pretty sweet newer book out called Einstein's Telescope I picked up and started reading the other day. It's about Dark Energy. If you haven't read about Dark Energy go do so. It makes up like 85% of all energy in the universe and we don't know what the fuck it is. @_@

    Another random nerdy science book I like: The End of Aging by Aubrey De Grey. It's about how and why we age and how easy it really would be to stop it if we just funded research like we should instead of buying bombs all the time. You can watch a 10 minute summary on TED Talks.

    Actually, just go watch a bunch of videos on TED. :p (I think I'm just gonna do that next time I toke actually)

    As a whole, string theory has been on the decline in academia for a few years. One of the problems with String theory is that there isn't really a way to verify it, and alternatively, even if you did verify it, it doesn't really prove much of anything.

    The KKLT paper and the Susskind paper kinda sorta acted as a 'death-nail' for several years, and if I recall KKLT remains the most cited paper on the topic, even years after it was written. There have been some interesting development in the last 2 years, but I haven't read those papers so I can't comment on them.

    But it all goes back to the original problem, you can't really prove it and even if you could it doesn't really prove anything.
