Spiral CFL w/ Humidity Dome?

  1. After killing my first seeds by going staight from germination to Sure to Grow under a 400W Metal Halide, I learned that I need to use a humidity dome and a bunch less light until they are ready to move over to the MH.

Being that I am only doing 2 plants at a time, I am using a 6" x 6" x 10" tall clear rubbermaid container with some rockwool cubes to start the seedlings.

Is a 23 watt spiral CFL in a desk lamp fixture too much light for them?

Should I try to set the light next to or above the seeds?

How long should I leave them in before moving them over?

  2. Its perfect

    Above it

Till the roots are exposed from grow media (rockwool)

  3. The seedlings were making some serious stretching maneuvers, so I got a shorter container. It is now, 4x4x4. This let me put the light closer to avoid stretching. Is this too close? And, will they have enough air in there exchanging it once per day?

  4. I would have them in there until their second leaves are coming in, as far as the light 6-10 inches away is fine.
