Sometimes this sort of gets me.. but only when their belief that god saved them from certain death takes credit away from the Docs/surgeons that worked their asses off to keep them alive. however if someone has faith in god and religion I do believe that it can help, just by believing, Christianity in its truest form is all about good vibes, and I'm sure everyone can agree that good energy/vibes help you along your way. So more power to your mom as long as she gives the doctors credit for what they did.
