So my friend has a little grow in their closet useing cfls and I'm wondering if we should switch to a hps? or maybe add one? there is about 8 20 watt cfls and 3 40 watt. I'm not sure if we would be able to get a fan in there so it might get too hot if we switched/added a hps?
The boys above are correct, with hps there is NO comparison, avoid anything under 400w as its more heat than light, the 400 watt will do 3x3 feet very well, it will add a little more to the power bill, but guaranteed to make bud. A 400w hanging 21 inches over your leaf tips is spitting out 5200 lux. ... at 6 inches(min rec) 675600 lux..the average 24w cfl is about 1500 lux, go figure no comparison ..there are notable diminishing returns with cfl's about 220 watts from memory But if you are growing with a buddy be sure ...he whose got the hps, ... rules the grow ...no bitching about it?
