  1. i got high and did a really shit painting
gonna send it to my mother with no explanation
    [IMG]

  2. Hahaha, cute!
It looks like you want to do a whole lot with just one medium.
Maybe next time do some multi-media stuff! Like the pattern in the walls and robe could be portrayed with using different patterned scrap booking paper!

  3. When I read the title this is all I could think of:

Good job thought man, I couldn't do that.

  4. the point is that it was a shit painting
i made it sub par for ironic reasons

  5. Ooh.
Well let's see some more art, man!

ok, here's one i finished last night:
it's john stamos but painted badly

someone actually commissioned this for £10 + p&p, and another person's commissioned a painting for £12 + p&p of whatever i want to paint

  7. [IMG]

Stole the idea and did a poor job

Not trying to be a dick, but few artists with true ability paint poorly on purpose, it's not like you're reinventing cubism

"No offense", but "Not trying to be a dick" and saying something that makes you a dick doesn't excuse you from being a dick.
I don't claim to be a painter, but I made these vectors, of which the first is a self portrait:
    http://fc09.deviantart.net/fs70/i/2010/297/5/e/self_portrait_by_clansoul-d31f3kq.png
    http://fc01.deviantart.net/fs29/f/2008/114/4/c/Bird_by_Pond_by_ClanSoul.png

    and this collagraph:
    http://fc05.deviantart.net/fs43/i/2009/092/a/4/Edgeworth_Collagraph_Print_by_ClanSoul.jpg

    (although, these are digital paintings:
    http://fc02.deviantart.net/fs36/f/2009/172/a/7/Chapter_Three_by_ClanSoul.jpg
    http://fc01.deviantart.net/fs42/f/2009/103/e/8/Gardevoir_by_ClanSoul.jpg
    http://fc03.deviantart.net/fs31/f/2008/232/e/2/Owl_by_ClanSoul.jpg)

"few artists with true ability paint poorly on purpose", eh? Guess I'm one of the few.
Just so you know, there are no original ideas; that poorly photoshopped "painting" (yes, that's right, it's entirely photoshopped) is not original either.

  9. Why do you change your signature on every piece?

I am going to kidnap him one day.:devious:

  11. if anybody's interested, here is the sketch of the next painting

  12. Wow! You put that paint on thick.
    Is it oils or acrylics?
If it's oils, are you putting medium in it too, to ensure it keeps a nice glisten as well as dries swiftly? If you don't mind a little critique, the colors seem to be getting a little muddy. Maybe you should allow the layers to dry a little first so you can keep the nice vivid color you mix up and it won't blend into the paint that's already applied!
    Those vectors were nice! I love seeing artists that utilize digital media. It's a real hard jump from going from the graphics tablet and photoshop and paint, though! That's for sure (;
Also, I would recommend looking at the figure a bit closer! Get to know the proportions of the body, the bone and muscle substance underneath the skin...also it's a good excuse to look at naked people! (; There are TONS of anatomy books for artists out there. I bet if you look on Amazon you'd be able to find at least a dozen under 20$ :)

I spent two years in college earning a National Diploma in Art and Design, and I'm in my second year of university following on from that. I spent two years learning life drawing, colour theory and painting techniques as well as how to paint on the computer, though most of what I know is self taught.
The point of these paintings is not to utilise those hard earned skills, it is to hold off from using them. It's an excersize in restraint, if you like.
I found a small niche in the market that likes the idea of ironic paintings and I used that to build upon my own philosophies.
These paintings are bad on purpose, trying to critique them as legitimate pieces of art is redundant.

They are acrylics, by the way, and the reason they are muddy is because I only have cadmium yellow and cadmium red, but no lemon yellow or crimson.

  14. Oh, thanks for the information.
Can we see some more? I'd love to see some of your technical stuff, too!
See, I'm training to become an educator... so you can't blame me to try and turn every moment into a teaching opportunity.

Plus, no matter how much experience, you can never be finished with learning! :)

  15. Well as I said, I'm not really a painter. I'm more proficient in other areas like graphic design and I'm doing a lot of audiovisual stuff like this:
    [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=12BVAnwrAP0]Disconnection - YouTube[/ame]
This is a video I created for a university project.
    The basic premise is this:
A man connects to the internet but his connection is interrupted by a strange phonecall.
Over the phone, he hears his late daughter's voice and just as he responds to her, she disappears.

Everything was generated entirely in After Effects except the overlaid film effect, which was created by scratching off large areas of 16mm movie film.

    I also created the soundtrack.

  16. Damn dude! That gave me chills!
You did fantastic on that! The sounds, the visuals....bravo!

  17. Thanks, that means a lot. I put a significant amount of effort into producing it!

  18. Thats fucking great man, seriously.
Im going to start university soon for graphic design, ive always liked it, but i used to be better than i am now (i guess im just outta practice) because i used to spend all day in photoshop and illustrator, made a Maya 3d course, learned a lil bit of after effects, but i think what i do best is drawing with these:
Rapidograff i think theyre called, theyre ink, but they come in 0.05, 0.2, 0.3, 0.5, 1.0, etc. and theyre just brilliant, you can add so much texture to a drawing using the different sizes and different technics, its just awesome.

    Keep working, youve got skills.

  19. Waysouth, why don't you start a thread with your drawings, paintings, or logo designs...? I'd love to see them!!! :)
