I got a chance to drive a VW beach buggy yesterday, I've so longed for,the ultimate freedom car ...MAN!!! ...was I in for a shock, I froze it was freezing, noisy as hell, poor brakes, smoky, with no suspension to mention and I hated it, since I was 16yo I have wanted to get behind the wheel of one now I have, I rather own a motor bike even walk ...lol Anyone else....?
1959 rag sunroof 23 window micro buss... $900.00 1961 Wolfsburg crest Bug... $40.00 Needed an exhaust valve 1965 squareback $75.00 Smoked (Pistons & Liners $30.00) 1966 fastback... $35.00 Somebody had put 5 gallon of gasoline into the oil fill hole in the back of the car marked "Engine oil only". Ran fine once I put the gas in the tank where it belonged and put some oil in the crankcase. 1974 buss... Free.....Another broken valve and a $15.00 fix.
My first was a '68 VW bug automatic. Three speed no clutch. I could start off in third gear but it took a long time to get to cruising speed. Got it to almost 90mph going down a long hill. Had mags on the back. What a shitbox that thing was. I loved it.
