Question about Universal Health Care...

Discussion in 'Politics' started by Mist425, Jul 22, 2009.

  1. So here's my question: from what I understand the proposed system would not make it mandatory for individuals to enroll in this government issued health insurance program, right? I imagine privately issued plans will still be better than the government issued ones, just more expensive. So in effect doesn't this just make it easier for poor people who would otherwise be uninsured to become insured?

Are the main concerns with this thing the idea that quality of care will deteriorate and that taxes will go up?

  2. I believe that private insurers will collapse due to many if not most businesses that either already have, or will be required to get health insurance for their employees will go with the gov option. Then we will only be left with gov care.

Once that happens, the gov can threaten us with denial of health coverage in order to force us to do a multitude of things.

I don't trust the government to be able to handle this effectively or responsibly just based on how they have handled most everything in the past.

They have yet to earn my trust...especially with my healthcare.

That is my main concern with universal healthcare.

  3. That is part of it, the majority of the funding is coming from the middle class. You say you want to reroute money that has already been collected and being spent on the military, well that is already the majority of the middle classes money. Basically the middle class is being held responsible to fund the program so a certain percent can get very cheap health care at the cost of theirs deteriorating and them not being able to afford private healthcare.

Then you have Regulators like the FDA who aren't competent at doing their job without accepting money from the same corporations they are regulating.

I'm sure some of you must of heard about Bayer, had pharmaceuticals on American markets and the FDA told them to take them off the shelves because some how they were magically all tainted with HIV... so what do they do? They ship them to France, Spain, and Europe killing innocent children for a profit.

The government in control of our health isn't a good thing, i mean has anyone even seen what they do to their own soldiers with expiremental drugs and the side effects they face without even being told of which drugs they are injecting them with.

The people who can't afford health care, the truely poor will ultimately suffer. Taxs are going to increase, products are going to increase in price because the companies which are selling them now have to pay for your healthcare, and the cost of living will rise all while you think the government is cutting you a break.

There is no such thing as a free lunch, people are profiting off this and just imagine what kind of drugs the government will agree to use on you while they are trying to save a penny and don't think you'll beable to sue them, good luck with getting your accurate records which tell you the last injection was nothing more than a flu shot which you've never had side effects from before.

  4. This article right here, this will answer your question.

What kind of fucking bullshit is that, man? That rubs me the wrong way, and hard.

They want money just as much as anyone else. This health care reform everyone has been talking about, this is for the poorer folks, right? Then why would these people ban any availability of much cheaper generic drugs for 12 years? To me that doesn't make any sense.

I mean these are the things our government does when they don't even run a health care business. Imagine what it will be like when it does? The reason health care sucks is because it is over regulated.

I imagine that a lot of employers will go with the government plan, especially in times such as these. This is so perfect for them.

Economic downturn, give 'em money! Health care complaints, give 'em health care! Make them need us!

  5. I'm not sure where I read it, but if you don't take the plan you get something like a 3% tax penalty, and businesses get around 8%. I might be wrong though.

  7. You realize that the rich folk who choose the private insurers still have to PAY for the poor's insurance yes?

  8. I'm aware of that yet strange enough I care very little. I can't imagine a helluva lot that would make me feel sorrier for the rich than the poor.

  9. Ah, you're one of those people who believes being rich is somehow evil. Not feeling sorry for someone is quite different than being OK with them being robbed at gunpoint for charity. Rich people haven't fucked anyone over to get rich (most). This isn't a zero-sum game, wealth can be and is created. Therefore, the wealthy should be treated equally.

Stealing is stealing, and redistribution of wealth is stealing, no ifs ands or buts about it. Socialists believe that the ends justify the means. I disagree.

I feel sorry for the poor. When I eventually accumulate moderate wealth (as I'm confident I will be able to do) I plan on giving to charity, preferably directly. That doesn't make me feel justified in forcing someone ELSE to give THEIR money to charity at gunpoint!

  10. Haa ha ha... Dude, open up your eyes! The rich stand on the backs of the poor; you don't have to have bombed a project building to have fucked over the poor; you and I do it every day just by living and consuming at the socioeconomic level we're at. I'm not saying you or I are dirtbags for it (though some might say we are) but that's just an unpleasant reality of the world.

Also, no one's robbing you at gunpoint, don't be so melodramatic. Do you have to live in this country? If you live in this country you're legally obliged to pay taxes. Love it or leave it :D

  11. He is pointing out how unjust the system is, the government is only asking 3% of their incomes while others they ask 60% and people who don't pay are put in jail. The people who have homes to foreclose on are the hardworking citizens who have been paying taxs their whole lives and can't sustain to live and work happily while the government thinks they 'deserve' more from them. Why does he deserve to pay more? If we are all born equal, just because you are born into money doesn't mean you are any better off, maybe a better chance, but doesn't garuntee anything. I'm a high school drop out and i'm against Universal Healthcare. I plan on going somewhere in the future and that isn't on welfare collecting money from the working part of society. I want to do something with my life and make money so i can live happily, i don't want to start working and studying and accumilating $100,000 loans for schooling if the government is going to take 60% of my paycheck. I don't think i will ever be able to get rich with the "RICH" tax starting at $200k a year and applies to the same people who are making billions.

I for one think no one gives a damn about another and no one even wants freedom anymore, you aren't intelligent enough to take care of yourselves, the government has breed stupid, selfish, spoiled brats who are looking for a handout from any hand they can get it. Wheither it be there own brother who has just broken poverty and worked his ass off to leave it, they wouldn't mind taking half of his money for their own selfish needs.

  12. You need to reexamine what the tangible benefits are of being born into a well to do family and the tangible burdens that come from being born into a poor family...

Kudos to you for not planning to live on welfare. Still, not to be a dick, but if you desire to 'get rich' as someone without a GED I think you have bigger barriers than government tax rates.

    Please, save the excuses.

My mother helped clean appartment buildings with her mother as a child so they could get a deal on a place to stay. They were poor their whole lives and if you think my father had it much better with a 5 sibling family and his father was an electrician and mother stayed at home, his brother, sister, and himself have managed to better themselves tremendously. My father told me he had a job at 12 years old delivering papers every morning at 5 am. He had that job for a while and since then he has had to pay for his clothing and any accessories he ever wanted. They kicked him out at age 18 and he didn't have funding or a family to help pay for him. He was an 18 year old adult and they needed money, it was time for him to provide fully for himself. That wasn't much help as i was on the way with my mother and he had to work electrical work while my mother went to college at nights. They are now considered "rich" because they make $300k combined. My fathers brother now owns a successful electrical company and my aunt is a doctor. They all provided for themselves and never relyed on anyone else, why do they some how need to pay back the community which hasn't done anything for them?

I'll tell you with my lifestyle and my parents working 24/7 there were no benefits of a family life or childhood memories. I mostly felt like i was never appreciated or cared for and probably the reason i dropped out, money isn't everything, would you rather have a million dollars or a family that you can rely on?

Just because mommy can buy me a pack of pencils doesn't mean i'm going to try my hardest to please mommy, especially when i see her less than my babysitter.

    next excuse?

  14. You have absolutely no proof of that. The fact that you think wealth is a zero sum game is fucking laughable. You seriously need to either take an economics course, or just work in the private sector for some years. Seriously man, we're not keeping anyone down simply by living well and making money. IN fact, the wealthy do more to HELP the poor than anyone else.

And what happens when I don't pay my taxes? Jail. What happens when I say I'm not going to jail? Guns.

So yes, yes I am being robbed at gunpoint.

I don't mind paying taxes for constitutionally sound reasons. Hell, I don't mind paying local taxes at all. Only federal taxes that support unnecessary and unconstitutional federal government bureaucracies piss me off.

  15. Oh, the irony! Seriously dude, i agree with you plenty, but your parents not being there for you has little to do with their wealth status, and much more to do with their priorities. You can still succeed.

But you need a GED. Success without a GED is next to impossible. Success with a GED is just hard work and charisma.
