QB conundrum

Discussion in 'Lighting' started by ButterDiesel, Oct 20, 2018.

  1. At the moment I have a 1000w HID light for my 4×4×6.5 tent. From looking at the different lights on their website, the HLG-600H V2 and the HLG-550V2 are the equivalent of a SE 1000W HID. The 600v2 has a 600+ watt draw and the 550v2 has a 470+ watt draw. All the par and other pertinent numbers on the 600v2 are higher, but the price is a couple hundred dollars cheaper. The more posts i read on QBs the more confused i become. Why aren't these 2 boards recommended for my size tent? I've seen where qb132 is mentioned, qb288, 304 or whatever but not the 2 I'm considering. I DO NOT want to build a light. Yes I know it's cheaper blah blah blah. I have enough crap around the house to fix, another $50 to have a light built and tested by people who know what they're doing is cheap insurance imo. I really just want ONE light to plug in, two at the very most. I already have a pump, chiller, two fans, and an air pump plugged in and I'm running out of outlets. The main reason I want an led light is for the power savings and efficiency. Can anyone help me pick a light? If I have to keep my HID so be it, but I'm not looking forward for the electric bill for my next grow.

  2. To my understanding it's because of a few reasons why the 132's and 120's are suggested.

    1) there's no heat sink needed for smaller boards which means less heat coming off the boards which again to my understanding makes them more efficient.

    2) the spread of the lights

That's all I could come up with right now but I'm sure others will chime in shortly.

Tbone, coco2soil, and hunter are all very knowledgeable on QBs so be looking for those guys.

  3. Also, if you don't care about spending the extra money and you just want plug and play id look at the chilLED that growmou5 advertises.

I'm outfitting my second flower tent with chilled lights.

  4. I think Timber makes a 42sams that’s a pc board light like quantum 600. Better spread and pricing too if I remember. DIY is really where the qbs shine. I’d put 4 rows of 4 qb120’s in there. That’s about 950 available watts but you would probably run dimmed to achieve your 800-1000 ppfd across the canopy. Problem is, nobody has any qb120’s or 132’s at the moment

  6. Yeah I know. But again he said he didn't mind. The extra money for the insurance.

If I hand 2k right now to blow on lights I'd get the 940w kit with the controller and everything. But for now my 120's will do with those 96's my rooms LIT.

  7. I said I don't mind paying an extra $50 to have HLG build their kit instead of me, I DO mind spending a grand, which ain't gonna happen. I'll check out the chilled LED. The other brand I actually looked st the other day online and their performance numbers were lower than QB's if I remember right.

this is because the DIY 132's and 120's r so much cheaper,
i just saw another thread that some one was looking for an assembled 550 QB.

the 550 will save u $ on electricity, 470w in a 4x4 is only 30 wpsf, not quite enough light but would work,
the 600 will out do your 1000 HPS and save some electric.!! 620w in 16 sq ft = 39 wpsf.!

the true electric savings would be a combination of 380w less light electric and less A/C running.!!

  12. Thanks Slow Old Guy, that's what I was looking for. I guess I'll have to start combing the threads here to figure out what to build . Has anyone had dealings with HLG directly? Or is there some parts lists on here with everything listed that I'd need?

  15. not being rude man, i m like a kid waiting for your answer,
one day i might have a real size grow and may need to know this stuff.!
building them 120's ain't chit, that is simple compared to designing my grow box and HID hoods.!

  16. I’ve got 12 qb120’s in my 4x4. Problem is finding them since amazon is out of stock.

@onthemooch is a director for Invisible Sky, a UK based pc board lighting company that uses the same diodes. You may be able to work out a package deal to make the duty worthwhile.

  17. You can also do 4- qb96elite v2 engines and drive them hard, 200 plus watts each and cover a 4x4. The red diodes will enhance flowering and with added far red pucks or bars will trigger Emerson effect and initiator effect if ran 15 minutes past lights off

  20. I’m only driving them to 200 watts.

Here’s the spec sheet on the 120
