Area Wide News: Local News: <font color="red">Breaking News</font> Oregon County deputy sheriff arrested (10/12/11)

The latest incident involves deputy Darrin G. Sorrell, 32, of rural Thayer, who was charged Oct. 12 in Oregon County Circuit Court with felony stealing by coercion.

Reports indicate Sorrell threatened an Oregon County woman with an investigation of her for distributing marijuana if she did not pay him money.
A probable cause statement filed by Oregon County Prosecutor Fred O'Neill indicates the woman paid Sorrell two checks, totaling $5,800, "to make the investigation go away."Sorrell allegedly deposited one check into his personal bank account and cashed the other, keeping the money at his Thayer home.

Former LA Fire Chief

LOS ANGELES (CBS) - The son of Los Angeles' former fire chief, Millage Peaks, has been arrested for allegedly bribing a TSA agent to help him smuggle marijuana on board a flight.
Authorities arrested Millage Peaks Jr., 23, Sunday morning on charges of smuggling 10-15 pounds of pot on a flight from Los Angeles International Airport to Boston.
â€œIt's a fair amount. I think it was purchased for about $38,000 and was gonna be resold for some amount greater than that,â€ said Robert Little, Peaks' attorney.
