pH too high?

Discussion in 'Sick Plants and Problems' started by thcrefugee, Jan 20, 2012.

  1. I received the rooted clones from a caregiver. i fed them with the garden stores compost tea upon arrival in their new home.

then, I made a compost tea with tap water (after bubbling for 24+ hrs to remove Cl) i added a handful of EWC, a spoon of mexi bat guano, and a small glug of Liquid Karma.
    they were fed with this.

The problem here was the tap water i used, it started at above pH 8,
after brewing, it was still in the high 7 range.
i watered with this. ( i tested with the drop and compare color method)

The next few days i noticed a pretty obvious problem..
leaf edges curling up, some of them were browning and crisping.

then a few leaf tips started twisting and burning, similar to a Mg/Ca looking problem, except all curling was Up.
I also thought about P or K being deficient.

After thinking about it, I can only imagine its a problem with pH.
there are Plenty of micronutrients in what i fed. i have plenty of Ca and Mg in the tap water here.

I have since been pouring distilled water in with a decent amount of runoff. also, an occasional foliar with a 1/4 strength Liquid Karma.

Things have seemed to get a little better, and some growth is occuring, although still slow.

    Any thoughts on this?

  2. having a similar issue. come on let us know.

  3. The drop tests will not work when the color of the water is not clear (which i'm assuming it wasn't with a tea). You need to get a digital PH meter and save yourself and plants some pain and anguish. Amazon has them for around 20 bucks. I haven't had any serious issues since I bought mine, best purchase I ever made for my grow.
