Well i have a spot picked out that would be good to grow at. When looking at the ground it seems a little hardpacked but still soft a little bit. The area is a sandy/clay/dirt. 1. The ground is a mixture of dirt clay and kinda sandy. I am kinda wondering how deep do the plants roots in the grow grow to be, 6-7 feet down? I rather leave them in the ground instead of pots so how much soil would i need or better yet how many feet down do i need to dig this hole. If it is more the 5 feet then i dont know if i wanna do that for obvious reason? This will be my first time growing but i want successful plants.
Sandy clay loam is ideal soil. Add a little humus or leaf litter or compost in a hole and put your seedlings in. Sounds like you found a good spot. My $20 hole is 2 shovels wide square and as deep as I can get. mix in equal parts native soil and any amendments you can haul to the site. Be careful about disturbing the area. freshly dug holes are pretty obvious.
