Hi everyone, im having a wierd problem with my ph. i keep adjusting it with ph down to 5.7 the next day i check it and its 7.1 this has happened the past three days. Im using rockwool cubes, and after 3 days my water is seeming to get cloudy please help!! are the rockwool cubes bringing the ph up? or is the nutrient solution going bad? Im aerating with a airstone, and temps are 75
your nutrient solution could be buffered to the point you can't change the ph much anymore... i would drain and replace with all new fresh nutrients at correct ph... there is a limit to how much ph up/down you can add to your solution...
thx for the post, the stuff im using, grow micro bloom by ad nutes is recommended at 5.5 5.7 ph Ill take your advice and drain it when i get off work today and try again, thx
I am also new, but with your problem and this solution after draining nutes, clean your res. then do flushes with PH stable H2O till the flushed H2O is PH stable, then fill, enjoy and please post for review.
I know the cost can be a factor for some, but I just started using distilled water. I haven't had any ph problems since.
For anyone needing only 1-2 Gal. of distilled H2O a day long term you can get a 1gal. steam distiller at sears which may really help some. It uses little energy and makes a gal. in 5-6 hrs.
hmmmm my rez is 10+ gallons, i dont want to buy water by the gallon unless i absolutely have to. its pretty easy for me to ph stabalize water, but its wierd, it seems to keep rising lol.. im going to flush them soon, its night time for them now so mabye when they wake up in 6 hrs...
Well, even if you if you completly changed your res. ea. week (which is not needed) you could make it easily in 5 days, adding H2O to the distiller when you wake and when you got home from work. @ $1.50 gal. it would pay for itself in less than 2 months. I think there ~$100.
Did you soak your cubes overnight? That would be my guess, considering you asked if it could be them... You will need to flush them with ph corrected nutrient solution (5.5-5.8 in hydro) until they stop doing that. There isn't much you can do to stop it if it's the rockwool; accept transplant into cubes that have been soaked in 5.2 ph water overnight. Good luck man let us know what you find out!
thx for the post, Im a total noob lol i read that they should be soaked for hours, so i soaked them im water for hours. problem is that my tap water is 8.1ph and the cubes started at 7ph. i need them to be ph 5.7 so i should have soaked them in ph 5.4 to even out a 5.7 but im a noob lol what can i say. other than, ill not make this same mistake next time. my plants are clearly showing the mistake, and are not taking off like i think they should. one is showing ph mistakes in the leaves i think. and the leaves are drooping. i think the drooping is caused by too much/ too close light. becuase 3 hours into the dark period the leaves are starting to livt. thx for the posts all....
Min. elect. And yes it boils and the steam goes into its condenser on top then drips through a carbon pouch into a jug.
I have had the same problem with cloudy nutrient solution and rising ph. I fixed a quart mason jar (not light proof) of nutrient solution and adjusted the ph to 5.5. I have an air pump and air stone to aerate it. After one day the ph raised to 6.2 which I expected since I have hard water with a ph of 8.3. I adjusted the ph back down to 5.5 and the solution was still clear. On day two the ph had risen from 5.5 to 7.2 and I noticed that it is looking cloudy and has an unpleasant odor to it. I know algae will thrive in nutrient solution if it has plenty of light. But can algae increase the ph like that? I don't know if it is safe to water my seedling with it or not?
