Title says it all! This is my first notill grow. Recently whipped up the soil which contains: 1/3 peat, COM lobster compost, and pumice.

For amendments I used: kelp, crab, neem, Karanja, alfalfa and fish bone meal. Along with some dolomite lime, malted barley from a local brewery, glacial rock dust, gypsum and a few cups of worm castings. Topped all that off with a nice layer of COM fundy mulch!

I also planted several companion plants/cover crops. Clover, basil, buckwheat, and chamomile being some of them.

    Soil smells like the ocean!

I managed to fit a 10gal fabric pot in my 16x16x48 tent, so anything is possible.

Very excited to use and reuse this soil as I feel I’ve gotten a better grasp on soil building / maintaining thanks to the wonderful sticky’s on this forum! Very thankful for all the great minds that put together the plethora of information regarding notill and organic gardening!

  3. I'm subbed up and will follow along. Looks like you have the soil on point. If I don't miss my guys, you have an HLG light (maybe 2x 65s?), Which is tops.
    All goo things.

    A free questions:
Did you let your soil cook?
    Did you add any worms?
Are you planning on using Anything to top dress?

    Good luck!

  4. I’m using one HLG 65, going to eventually get the HLG 135w but I want to see what I can do with the 65 for a few grows.

Soil has cooked for about a month and I’ll be transplanting into it once those little pots are rooted.

I wish I had worms to add! Definitely something I’m going to do in the near future for sure.

For topdressing I’ll be doing kelp, neem and maybe a few others about every 6 weeks. Malted barley will be top dressed more frequently and added to waterings. I will also be watering with aloe Vera powder, and a very light molasses tea.

    Thanks!

Excited to see what this grows into!

  7. Not much development from the odd looking seedling. Top dressed with malted barley flour today. The one on the right is just about ready to go into the final pot!

  8. Looks great! Except that twisty little gal... Good luck!

PS worms are a great idea.

  9. Did you buy malted barely flower or malted barely?

I typically pick up malted barely and then run it through the coffee grinder right before top dressing. Only bring it up because your topdress looks a little chunky.

  10. I picked it up from a local brew store and I’ve been running it through a blender whenever I use it. Works for now until I get a grinder!

  12. Soil wasn’t fully cycled so I had to let it sit a while longer. Anyway, here’s a fresh start. I was using a cherry tomato plant to test the soil early on and decided to let it grow out. Stay tuned!
