Not saying all rap sucks, but I HATE RAP

Discussion in 'Music genres, Bands and Artists' started by Hefe707, Dec 7, 2013.

  1. Tired of looking for good music on GC and all I find are these shitty rap threads.
I like good music; music that takes talent, a symphony of instruments, and well thought out meaningful lyrics......

....Not just say the first thing that comes out your mind, and sing about killing people and buying thousands of dollars worth of clothing, you ignorant sheep.

Let me hear your best music GrassCity

Here is one of my favs, and I just saw him last night here in Humboldt.

  2. I love rap. Most of it nowadays is simply garbage. But it used to be good. I just have old rap on my playlist.

  3. HIPHOPALLDAY.

  4. First of all, I sort of see where you're coming from.

When you want to listen to instrumental music, listen to instrumental music. But if you want to listen to rap, listen to rap. Warren G or The Roots aren't to be compared with Floyd or Tool . But that doesnt mean that the former is bad, at all. I love me some old school gangsta funk. underground shit. Just like I like electronic music where there are no instruments, or ambient where there are instrument sounds but are played by computer. Music is just notes and sounds that spark some kind of creativity or abundance of thought or appreciation in your head and you can't say a type of music where the bulk of the beat and music is made by a lyricist maintaining a certain rhythm (such as poetry) is devoid of creativity, you cant. If you don't like the subject matter, odds are you're listening to a modern day hip hop artist rap about how awesome it is to drink a certain alcohol hes brand dropping for cash, or how hard it is to be successful. Listen to the people who inspired and put them there instead.

But you said you're looking for good tunes so if you want PM me your favorite stuff to listen to and ill use that as a springboard for recommendations. I love every genre under the sun except modern country and modern rap. Even if you want classical or jazz I got ya.

  5. No offence but playing a couple of chords on a guitar and singing about pot is not that hard. Just go to any collage and you can see a live performance.

But really, every genra is good. Its all about the artist. We are human's, we are all capable of experienceing the same emotions, some emotions are stronger then others but we still have the same. As long as it comes from true emotions I can dig it.

  6. No offense but you're dissing rap for having shitty lyrics then you post that song? Anybody can play a few chords and sing some gibberish about weed. Just go to a community college during the weekdays.

Yes, most mainstream rap is garbage. There is good stuff out there, but I guess I'm just an "ignorant sheep" for enjoying a certain type of music.

I got Wu Tang, The roots, atmosphere, and Eminem on my playlist, all good music. But you guys go back to listening to your songs about killin niggas and selling bricks because I am sure you all do that everyday.

  12. I use to feel the same way. I was huuuuge into melodic death metal, progressive, etc. It is true that it takes a good amount of talent for music like that. People don't listen to music for complexity, however. Not normally anyways. People like rap because it's catchy, easy to relate to, etc. There are very lyrical people out there if you look. I listen to EVERYTHING from trap, to horrorcore, to metal.  Lately it's been a lot of Mac Dre for me though, lol.
\tlllllllll Do you actually like Chief? There's this dude from my old city that produces and raps a lot like chief. (My friend said he produced a song for him, but I can't verify that.)

i mean im not like his biggest fan or anything but I fux with like 20 or so songs off the few mixtapes/album I have of his.. good music to turn up to

that second song you posted was tight. I could see myself bumpin this. the first ones beat was slackin a little bit for the lyrical style imo... production on the vids is nice too though

How can you diss rap and then post such a simplistic song claiming its great? Rap is the most lyrical music out there, a lot more so than rock and pop in my opinion. It all depends on which rappers you choose to listen to, people like Nas and Eminem write shit that most rockstars wouldn't dream of. That said, I'm being kind of biased because I haven't explored other genres nearly as much as I have rap and hip-hop. Playing an instrument adds another level to the music so it's kind of unfair to compare them.

  16. Listen to some Instrumental Hip Hop then if you don't like the lyrics. Making a good Hip Hop beat takes lots of talent.

Yeah, that's exactly how I feel about him too. Same for Bezz. I like his production work for sure.. The second vid is my fav too.  I kinda miss it down there though..  We've also had French Montana in the city haha.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cW2J5KchduE  (I'm not as big a fan of montana, but hey, hes famous so it's an accolade I guess. I don't listen to chief or bezz for lyrics, mostly as you said - turn up music. Have you heard of Mac Dre? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xv_R6_TLoFc

  18. Listen to Mobb Deep's first album. A lot better than what they play on the radio now.

  19.
hip hop takes talent to, especially if you find an artist that produces his own music as well. kanye west is great artist. everything he puts out is great. listen to family business by kanye west.
