    Dear NORML Supporters:

By now you are aware that actor/comedian Tommy Chong was recently sentenced
to nine months in federal prison for the "crime" of selling glass pipes over
the Internet. The federal government's deplorable decision to target a
cultural icon has caused an uproar among marijuana smokers and non-smokers
alike, and rightfully so. Thankfully, the absurdity of this case has not
been lost on the national media.

On Monday, September 22, the NORML Foundation will run a front page ad on
    Slate.com. http://slate.msn.com//
This is a tremendous opportunity for NORML to spread it's
message to Slate.com's nearly 1 million daily readers. Thanks to Slate.com
featuring NORML banners on the website, hundreds of thousands of people will
be educated about the need to end marijuana prohibition and stop arresting
marijuana smokers. We have even devoted an entire page on our website to
the Tommy Chong case and the issues surrounding it:

Slate.com offered this deal to NORML for an uncommonly low price, which
allowed us to take advantage of this tremendous opportunity. We are now
talking to other major media outlets about similar deals. We must rely on
support from marijuana smokers and supporters like yourself to expose this
injustice. The ad on Slate.com is sponsored by members of NORML's Board of
Directors; can you and your like minded friends and family help sponsor the
next ad? Please consider doing your part by donating to NORML's media
campaign today, and help us spread our message of marijuana law reform
through other major media outlets, by visiting:

We would also like to thank the eleven thousand of you who sent letters to
your members of Congress in response to Tommy Chong's sentencing. Amazing.
    Let's keep the pressure on!

If you have not done so already, please take two minutes to write your
representative and ask them to repeal the paraphernalia laws and release
    Tommy Chong today by clicking:

Thank you for your continued support!
