  1. Yay or nay?

I think Kurt Cobain is an absolute genius and Nirvana are one of the most influential bands of all time. They delivered such a good message about fucking the system and doing shit your own fucking way. Big Nirvana fan. You dig?

  2. porqueee???

  3. Nay

Unless you're an 11 year old girl just finding out about music, there is no excuse for listening to Nirvana.

  4. yay but I reckon they're way over rated. I much prefer the pixes tbh

Dude the pixies are badass. I haven't heard them in forever but that was all I listened to 4 or 5 years ago. Gouge away is still the best IMO.

  6. Absolutely agree Gouge away is there best followed shortly by Hey really love that track. There whole work is good but Doolittle is just brilliant.

  7. lota power chords nothing in nirvana i was really impressed by which is why i am confused as to why they get credit for being such "geniuses"

  8. Nirvana was genius when you look at them in the time they existed.

It's easy to look back from the hear and now and judge them as simple. I mean hell, they were 3 chord wonders with only 2 guitars and a set of drums.

But you have to remember they came about in the days when ballad rock hair bands, boy bands, and terrible MC Hammer style rap was all the rage. They definitely helped shift the paradigm.

  9. They weren't geniuses but Kurt used his pain he focused into their songs like no other, it's an experience listening to Nirvana.

  10. ...imo, Dave Grohl was the best thing that came from Nirvana.

  12. Back in the day, when I was just starting out high school, I'd obsess over Kurt cobain, read his biographys, journals, try too even do more research that Courtney killed Kurt :p and I even was trying too analyze 'Polly' played it backwards and everything.....really freaky shit.

Well any song you play backwards is freaky....man YouTube that shit :smoke:

This went on for two years er so, but the stuff I read, the stuff his friends said about him....he could've been really something now.. I still listen too them on occasions, but I can't really enjoy listening too teen spirit or lithium anymore :p.

  13. I wouldn't call the music genius, but it's definitely clever and can be beautiful to listen and relate to.

  14. Maybe not a genius in the traditional sense, but yeah I totally agree that the pain and anger that comes across in the songs is intense.

I agree with it being an experience. Everyone that first listens too Nirvana comes away with something fo'SHO.

  15. because they were the first band to enter the mainstream in that time period that strayed away from the 80's hair metal with cheesy guitar solos and ridiculous clothes and makeup. they just had straight forward, heavy music with some actual substance to it. people that dont like nirvana because they are not insanely talented musicians/singers missed the whole point of nirvana.

I enjoy Nirvana, yes...not overly so. Kurt was a tad too depressed and ron'ed out for my taste. I think bringing the Grunge thing to the world was good because I grew up in the North West when all of it was going down. I prefer the generally unheard ofs...but that takes away no merit from the band...I did see the melvins in a local bar and was just floored though. Buzz still fuckin kills it. Couldn't believe Kurts main influence came to little Missoula Montana and played in a bar...it was packed though and sold out days earlier which is why I love this town...heres some great Nirvana...also I'm pretty sure the public's feeling that Kurt was a genius led to his demise, pretty sure he was poetic sad kid who got lucky and made it big...idol worship is silly.
