New QB light frame 4x4

Discussion in 'Lighting' started by reggie1387, Aug 28, 2019.

  1. hi guys. I’m currently using 3x 288s (atreum) in a frame (3 in a row) using a HLG-320H-C2100B driver. This is in my 3x3. I’m about to upgrade to a 4x4 tent soon. So I’m buying a 4th 288 and 2x HLG-240H-54 drivers. I’m not sure which way is best to make a frame for the lights. I was thinking a 25x25mm angle like I used last time. Or using a piece of aluminium and mounting boards to it like the HLG 550.

    $80ish for the 25x25 angle + screws
    $96 aluminium

I have a plan for the frame. I could make 2 of these and have 2x lights each.

Or use a piece of aluminium like HLG 550v2 660x508mm

I have also brought 1x far red, 1x royal blue, 1x photo red led strip and thinking about running them like this

The atreum lights are a little difference in size then the HLG 288 but to make things easier I could use the light I choose measurements.

So what’s everyone’s opinions on the best frame to use? Benefits? Pros? Cons?

  2. I built a simple frame around a piece of wire fencing I cut to size. Works great and is very easy to mount the boards (zip ties) and move them around if needed. This also makes cable managment a breeze cause you can just use the wires in the fence to secure all the cables neatly.

It's also cheaper than going with all aluminum.

Here I epoxy glued magnets to the back of my far red strips and they just latch on the fencing.

  3. I never thought of the wire actually. I used it to put on top of my totes to sit my pots on to catch my waste. Would there be any difference Using the aluminium sheet to the cage? would it matter the wire not being reflective like the aluminium sheet?

  4. No it doesnt really matter, just use what you got.

  7. Just build a frame from whatever (could be aluminum, wood, pvc, whatever) and get a piece of wire fencing to match the size of your frame (i used fencing with 2" holes) and secure it to the frame with zip ties (or whatever else you have available). Drill a couple of holes in the frame to attach the hanging device of you choice. Voila!

Oh and I use zip ties to mount the boards. If you are using something like the QB96 with a bulky heatsink in the back you can just cut a bigger hole in the fencing to allow the heatsink to fit through.
