multiple plants in the same pot

  1. Was wondering what the outcome of growing multiple plants in the same pot would have. I heard somewhere that if the roots connect that you basically end up having multiple sprouts of the same plant.

Just wanted to know if this is a myth or what.

  2. Roots need room, and in an enclosed space (a pot) multiple root systems will compete for resources, resulting in both plants being worse off. You can pull it off with smaller plants, but having multiple plants in one environment leads to a whole host of issues... What if one plant is suffering nute deficiency while the other is suffering nute burn? The solution to each individual issue contradicts the other, so you have to come up with a solution that is pleasing to both plants and ultimately way more trouble for you.
