you may be confusing the wives tale with what happens after cutting the same clone over many generations. I've read after the 13th generation clone weird affects start happening. Maybe someone with more info can explain in detail, but i think thats what you're confusing it with.
Not really anold wives tale at all. Eventually they will lose their vigor among other things and get wonky. This is why breeders will take old strains and reintroduce their lineage in order to "bring them back". OK...well the good breeders anyway.
