mini fridge?

  1. would a mini fridge work well for a micro grow?? I mean it's basically air tight, and if i invested in a good filter. theoretically this should prevent the smell?

  2. How tall is it?

  3. yep. I've seen a few grows in mini fridges with great results. Haven't grown in one personally but I hear the tough part is gutting the thing and getting the condenser, insulation and other stuff outta there. Cooling can also be a problem because they're insulated so well. The insulation will hold in alot of heat and prevent it from "heatsinking" through the box.

I'd search GC and the net to find some examples out how ppl set theirs up. It might be easier to go with a small cabinet instead, it's depends on what you're capable of...the mini fridge setups seem to require a bit more ingenuity then a normal woodbox type cab.

  4. You could also consider growing in a PC case or old big speaker.

  5. Well, if I had adequate airflow I really don't think heat would be a problem. And it's not like I'd be keeping the fridge in the heat. It would be in my air conditioned room.

  6. mini fridges are a great spot to grow if you put some time into making it work. All you really need to do is gut the thing and get some good air circulation in there and youd be all set. Search the forums for mini fridge grows to get some examples i know theres atleast 2 on grasscity.

  7. I am also starting my own micro grow in a mini fridge =). Very inconspicuous!. I will also be posting pictures on how my grow turns out. and also how to turn you existing fridge into a usable grow area =)

    Some helpful suggestions:

    1. Do NOT completely gut the mini fridge! You can use the fridges ability to keep things cool or warm to your advantage!(with the right ventilation) Keep the foam insulation and the plastic, but get rid of; compressor, freezbox, temp control unit, any cables sticking out (in back too), i.e. any extra pieces that aren't going to be used. The inside of the mini fridge itself is quite simple. Leave the insulation!

    2. Ventilation is a little bit of a problem seeing as the fridge is made of metal and foam and there are no openings =(. The only way around this is to cut 3 holes. 2 for ventilation and 1 for Electrical cords. To control smell i suggest using Bohbo's guide for odor control(Active Carbon). For fans I suggest using computer fans.

    3. Maximizing Limited amount of grow space. Since there is a cavity of space on the back of the fridge there is the same amount taken up inside. I suggest using one f 2 different guides to maximize usage of space. 1. DierWolf's How to Lst (Low stress training) 2. Is greenmonster714's Scrog Guide(different from Sog or Sea of green). Or use both of the guides to maximize efficiency. My 2 cents is to put the planting pot/s in the front bottom of the mini fridge. Then use DierWolfs idea on Lst to gow the canopy so that it extends the plants over the pots towards the back of the fridge.

4.Lighting i still do not know what would be best for the confined area =(

If I miss anything feel free to correct or add to =D
