  1. Mexico lawmaker introduces bill to legalize marijuana

(Reuters) - A leftist Mexican lawmaker on Thursday presented a bill to legalize the production, sale and use of marijuana, adding to a growing chorus of Latin American politicians who are rejecting the prohibitionist policies of the United States.

The bill is unlikely to win much support in Congress since a strong majority of Mexicans are firmly against legalizing drugs, but may spur a broader debate in Mexico after two U.S. states voted to allow recreational use of marijuana last week. U.S. officials have said it remains illegal and that they are reviewing the state actions. "snip"

  2. I think they are pressuring DC to shut down our legalization efforts,,gotta protect their national money cow.

  3. why is this a bad thing? another country joining the revolution. and in actuality the president and MANY congress members in mexico support legalizing cannabis, just not any others drugs. maybe this will stop or at least slow the death and violence down there.

  4. If they were actually going to legalize it would help,,but just filing a bill to draw attention is the same ploy used by Guatemala's president threatening legalization to have his drug funding from the US increased,,,,it's all about the money,,as usual.

  5. Could you imagine how much less violence there would be if the drug cartels were able to produce their pot on their home soil without having to battle the law?

The gun fights wouldn't stop until its legal in this country. The money is in the fact that its illegal here. They got the mexican cops on the payroll. Yes it would help push the US government in the right direction or it could just backfire and the feds could throw up a big assed wall on the border or maybe even engineer a coup and install whoever they wanted.

  7. Mexico can't allow the cartels to reign much longer. The drug wars are going to completely kill their tourism industry, and I'm pretty sure the Mexican citizens are sick of living in fear of cartel violence.
