Think more or less, a cluster of balls. If its just one round thingy on either side and it has a hair growing out of it, it's probably female. You'll have plenty of time to notice if it's a male, but if you wait too long, you'll have one seedy crop.
I woke up and it was dead anyway (just lying on its side poor thing). Just noticed that it only had the one little "ball" type thing (with no hair) and wondered if it were a male
