Mac vs pc

  1. So I've been getting my laptops from Dell thus far, but they are all shit, despite having great specs. Is Mac worth it for the price or should I stick with the pcs because they are so much cheaper? My current laptop has an ATI Radeon graphics card, Creative Sound Blaster sound card, 8 gb RAM, 500 gb HDD, and a second gen core i5 processor. I can't decide if I want to shell out the cash for a MacBook pro.

  2. Serious?

You couldn't read the 517,983,493 threads already posted on this subject?

    My answer is phoneular.

  3. I go PC for a desktop (power, performance, gaming, etc) and Mac for laptop (design, ease of use.)

  4. What do you use it for?

Macs are fine but they are expensive and limited.

Windows and linux machines are far more powerful and with unlimited customization options.

Those are probably more suited to computer knowledgable people, where macs can be operated by a mentally retarded monkey

  5. I agree if you like macs, get a pc and put linux on it. You can customize it to look exactly the same as mac osx. Saves you a grand or 2.

  6. I like PC because Macs are so overpriced, and more importantly, everything has to be through apple ie warranties, fixes, apps, accessories. Also I love HDMI

  7. Dell sucks also. Asus makes great quality laptops.

  8. I was a PC guy for 15 years, started being a mac guy during the G4 Powerbook 17" around '03, and have had only ONE more mac since then, the one I'm typing on now...the MacBook 13". The only reason I gave the Powerbook up was because a friend needed a comp bad for his last yr in college and gave me some good money for it. Otherwise I would still have it. They are expensive, but I have nothing but good things to say about mac and apples customer service. I've had my comp in apple repair tons of times (all my fault). So my vote is Mac.

  9. Pc everytime. More power and gaming for less money. More upgradable also.

I'll say they have customer support, bit because I've had to use them so much in the few years I've had my macbook

  11. Get an intel based PC with hardware virtualization and run OS X on it. That way you aren't scalped for overpriced hardware.

  12. Dell, the mcdonalds of computers.

Well you can run both Mac and Windows on a Mac, you can't do the same on a PC. I like Macs because I was brought up using them, I get so confused when I use a PC. Everything seems so sloppy and unorganized, as opposed to Mac's OS where everything is slick and user friendly.

Also keep in mind with a Mac you won't need to waste money and resources running antivirus shit.

  15. PC! Mac = 3x the price for less than it is all worth.

  16. PC. I'll admit I'm ridiculously biased here, but PC hands down. The only people I recommend Macs too ever are either older people who I have to help every week because they can't seem to keep their computer clean, and art students, because they'll probably be forced into it anyways by their teachers. I know how to keep my PC clean and running fast and smoothly and I can easily get much much better hardware for a tiny fraction of the price. I refuse to pay so much money for a locked down *nix distro with a pretty shell and a few proprietary file types.

  17. PC...limitless.

  18. The only real advantage Macs got over PCs, is their seamless integration with other Apple devices, like iPhones and so on. The design of Macs are pretty nice as well. They do look good, nobody can deny that. Also some prefer OSX over Windows. Which made some sense a while back, but then the semi-evil empire released Windows 7, so now it makes no sense :D

But ofcourse, Macs do come at a price, and you do get locked in to the Apple universe. For a computer illiterate with a compulsion to hit "yes" and "ok" to each and every pop-up that appear, then one is less likely to do something silly with a Mac than a Win7 machine. Then again, you can get a similar GUI to OSX if that is your thing, and the same sense of sillyness-security by installing Linux on a PC that cost half of a comparable Mac.

If games and specialist software is right up your alley, then avoid Macs all together. They just don't cut it, even with dual-booting or virtual-machine running on your desktop. The software library for Windows is orders of magnitude larger than for OSX, meaning there is a lot of stuff you can do on a Windows PC that you can't do, or at least can't do as smooth, on a Mac.

It all bogs down to that Apple products are essentially a fashion/personality statement, with the premium price that follows. There is a certain kind of herd that gobble up whatever Apple products they can get their mitts on with almost religious fervor. The Church of Jobs crowd.

PCs are not as "glamouros", but they can do more - faster and cheaper.

  19. Dude, the only thing Mac has going for it is the fact that they (apple) can charge 3X the amount for their parts and software.

  20. It upsets me that such a brilliant man (jobs) used his knowledge for ripping vulnerable people off instead of helping them.
Even gates has a huge charity, but jobs forbade apple from donating money to anybody.
