I'm looking for the quietest fan on the market... preferably 6 inches in diameter. Does anyone know of a good one? Thanks in advance!
Add a speed control as you rarely have to run the fan @ full speed. If you have to, you need a bigger fan. That will really help with noise. I use a Vortex on a speed control.
what size? im looking to get a 6" vortex that pulls like 400 something. hows the noise level when its turned down?
I use a 6" for the lamp (Cooltube) and a 4" for cabinet exhaust . Both are on speed controls, which are the same as lamp dimmers except the knob is "backwards". Full speed the 6" sounds like a leaf blower. I suggest you mount them from hangers (straps) to prevent vibration transfer to the structure and as far away from your grow area as you can. I stuffed mine in the attic and you can't even tell they are running. I have been running them for over three years, so I figure I may have to go clean them out sometime. As a side note, you can "tune" the speed and feel the "hot spot" (if you are using it for lamp cooling) move further down the pipe as speed increases.
