I'm looking at a 1000watt lighting system. The system says it will cast a 8x8 primary lighting area. My questions are: 1. At what height would I have to have this light to illuminate this area 2. How close to the plants could I have a 1000watt system 3. Would MH require a different distance than HPS? 4. What kind of heat would this system produce (would HPS be different than MH?) 5. How far out of the 8x8 area could I still grow quality plants 6. How far out can I grow a decent sized plant without our running into the 'tepee effect'? If any of your O.F.F.s can help me out it'd be much appreciated.
HIGH All, 1000 watts should not be any closer than 2 feet from the tops of the plants. If you need a larger grow area then you should raise the light. Doing this will increase the coverage area, but decrease the intensity of the light. Here's a site that might help understand.
