  1. Nice shots MX [IMG]! SS-1 IS looking sexy :D

  2. Thanks guys!

    Cool new avatar, AllGood!

  3. Thanks MX!! [IMG]

  4. That's amazing. I just started my first plant. I want it to grow up and look just like you ss-2! Now how much bud do you think each plant will yield? Also, i am a bit confused on how one would smoke that plant? i see the buds but they dont look like the buds i get to smoke.

  5. Hey Joe!

Keep in mind that this is really my first indoor grow, other than half-hearted attempts many years ago. So I'm still learning too.

Some strains will look very icy and crystally like that and others not so much. Actually, it's my SS-1 that is quite a bit icier than the rest of my plants, including SS-2. I'm actually giving my SS-2 clone away since I intend to only grow more SS's from my SS-1 clone mother plant.

So strain is the most important factor. That and then your setup and technique in getting the plant to grow and mature under the healthiest possible conditions dictate the final outcome.

My plants are small, so the yield won't be great. I'm hoping for 3 or 4 oz. from each, but that may unrealistic for this grow. It'll be 3 or 4 more weeks until I harvest those plants and then at least another for it to dry. Then we'll know how I did. There are techniques like scrog and LST than can be used to way increase your yield. You can find plenty examples of those here on GC.

After harvest, you generally cut off as much leaf matter as possible - but you definitely keep that icy shit separate from the rest of the leaf because it's very potent secondary smoke. The buds you get are buds like you see here, but after they fill out all the way, and then are trimmed of all leaf, and then dried. You can jump to the end of some grow journals to see bud like you're familiar with, and then back up to how they looked during the grow.

Best of luck with your first grow, dude!

  6. What's happenin' MX. How are you and the girls today?

  7. Hey AllGood, All is well, thanks for asking. I've been trying for updates every 5 days. The last was at 40 and tomorrow is day 45, so there you go. Check me out tomorrow.

I have to admit, I was thinking the buds would be fatter by now. Somebody say something that will make me feel better about that - please!

Well, now I'm asking for it, aren't I? I imagine I'll get suggestions and advice that I should have cut away all the lower growth and thinned out the leaves early on in 12/12. I watched the video in this post posted by DemonSweat in MyRightArm's thread that I'm definitely going to heed next time around.

Like I said, I'm at day 45. Should I do some thinning or anything now?

  8. Flower day 45. I guess they're thickening up OK. Again, please zoom all the way in on the SS-1's close-up. I'm in love with that babe!

  9. Really nice grow MX. I'm trying to get my grow area set up, and have found your grow journal very insightfull. Thank you :smoke:

  10. Cool man. I'm glad you're able to get something out of it. And thanks!

  11. well my friend your talking about six of one and half a dozen of the other. cutting leaves always worries me. i just trimmed my mom and took off some major fan leaves, it scared me but she blew up in a week.

im with you, those fan leaves are your plant's failsafe. deficiencies pop up and the plant steals all the good stuff from the fan leaves to live and continue. you cut them off and that fuel is no longer available.

I'm in the middle of trying to figure out the optimal amount of leaves to remove and when. i can say that removing some big leaves works great for promoting new growth. I have plants that have almost no fan leaves that still are producing buds all over (yeah thats my fault that they all fell off, but i have a basis to say it).

    --

    on your branches point....

i started removing branches that i knew wouldnt produce about a 2 weeks ago. there were only a handful and every one was less than 1/4" thick. I do have lower branches that grew tall enough and are now producing nice sized buds even though they come from the 2nd true leafest node.

just my 2 pennies, lets discuss....

  12. Hey Grrower!

Glad you spoke up, and invited discussion! You probably have some time on your hands in light of your recent “harvests” and reduced work load, eh? OK, so let's dicuss…

I'd really like to feel like I'm doing the best I can for my 7-weeks-of-flowering bitches.

You should watch the video that I mentioned above so we're on the same as page as to what I'm now aware of and what I wished I had done. Do you agree with Remo's pruning tips? I couldn't find part two of his pruning tips video for week three maintenance. I imagine he'll want to remove more of the light-blocking foliage. I wonder if he would have said to remove the pop-corn bud sites – maybe to still leave the lower branches that could still support significant top buds. IDK! Here's that video:

Here's what I'd like to develop plans of attack for. Again, I'm referring to my plants now that they are in their advanced stage of flowering and in light of the fact that I did not follow his recommendations earlier on for week 1 and week 3:

    1) Fan leaves – Remove them? Only lower ones? Which are lower? I'm considering the top 4 big leaves of each main bud as the upper canopy and the rest are lower. Do you agree? Slowly remove them a few per day, or remove all the ones we identify as lower fan leaves right now? Only remove them if they are blocking a worthwhile bud below? What if they're near the bottom and not seeing much light anyway?

    2) Baby lower stems with popcorn buds – Take them off now? They may be small, but some of them are icy as hell and it would be difficult to make myself remove them. Should I leave the baby stems and just remove the midget bud growth below the tops?

    3) Final “flagging” – At some point, I've noticed that some growers pretty much remove all the leaves that aren't actually melded into the buds “right before harvest”. Do you agree with that? Define “right before harvest”. Would this be like when most of the trichs are milky, or maybe as soon as some start turning amber?

I just went down and took some pics of SS-1's lower growth, followed by some popcorn bud porn. Make sure you zoom in on the last one. Should I really remove these tiny things even though they're covered in icy crystals?

That's probably enough food for discussion at this point. Hey, you asked for it! Your thoughts?

  13. Hey there MX!

I think your bitches are looking very sexy! Just look at them show there goods! [IMG]

Glad you posted that vid. I need to understand how to prune myself. After this post I will check it out.

I say don't chop off the popcorn. They look like tasty little morsels. You are doing a great job man. Looks like the MJ fairly dumped a whole bag of her trichs on those girls!

Thanks for the good info bruh! Hopefully it with help me push my girls to their full potential.

  14. Wow!!!! That setup is tek!! Dude I looked at my pathetic grow closet and almost cried. :hello: Sick!!!!

  15. Kai - Thanks for your enthusiasm regarsding my setup. However, my bitchen lookin LED ladies may just be more pathetic that you might think!

Be prepared for bad news! Details will be posted in tomorrow's Day-50 update...

  16. i'm already crying. :(

we need to talk more so this doesnt happen to us both again.

you get an 11 out of 10 for attempt.

lets smoke a bowl and forget it until tomorrow. :smoking:

  17. Dank journal. I wanna watch this one :)
caught it late but I'll be around:hello:

  18. And here's the bad news I referred to in my last post ...

    Hermies have ravaged my grow!!!

I haven't been able to see any seeds on my LED ladies, but there's no doubt that they been hit up and fairly heavily. I intend to continue flowering these plants all the way through ripeness and so I will continue this journal, although my enthusiasm is quite diminished. Still, I hope you all stick it out with me.

Here's what happened. My first 4 plants were bagseed that all turned out to be female (I felt so lucky!) and they also all turned out to be sativa-ish. I started these a month before I started my LED plants, because I had a setup but no “real” seeds yet and I wanted to get going. When the LED girls were ready for flowering, the first four had an additional month of veg but they all started 12/12 on that same day. These first four plants were labeled as A-1, A-2, B-1 and B-2.

During their veg, batch #1 went through some heavy stress. I over-nuted them before I figured out that the problem was with my pH. I resolved the pH issues and then I flushed them all and gave them nothing for a couple of weeks. Then they each got a quarter cup of blood meal mixed into their top soil and that fixed them. After the flush, the leaves incurred no additional damage and after I fed them with the blood meal, their color and vigor returned. However as I said, there was a heavy stressful period and I believe this was the eventual cause of the hermieness – maybe poor genetics played into it as well.

A couple of weeks ago, at day 40 of flowering, my wife found a single bunch of bananas in one of A-2's buds. They were the first we had seen and had not yet opened. We decided to early harvest A-2 and also decided to take A-1 at the same time because of her lacklusterness. We got an ounce of airy bud from each. Hooray!

The next day, my son found a developed seed on one of the B sisters. That made me think that one of A-2's male flowers must have opened unbeknownst to us. Oh well, I thought, maybe it's not too bad.

Four days ago, I saw another hermie flower this time in one of B-2's buds. We carefully went over the B-1 and B-2 plants looking for more hermies. We didn't find any more, but saw an alarming number of seeds. That was when my heart really sank for the first time in regards to the LED girls! The next day, we harvested both of the B sisters. During trimming, I saw a lot of spent hermie male flowers on B-1 and pretty much lost hope for the chastity of my lovely LED ladies.

The B sisters will give about 2 oz each of bud, some of it fairly substantial and dense. I based that estimate on the before drying and after drying weights of the A sisters. So we scored almost 6 oz from these plants. The A sisters have a fresh and pleasant homegrown taste and give a strong, energetic high, and have no seeds. The B sisters are still drying, but we expect them to be of much better quality, although somewhat seed laden.

The lesson for me - never, ever let your plants get stressed in any way, and never again grow bagseed weed. I now control my pH and I've gone totally organic and therefore comfortable that my plants will never get stressed like that again.

    - - -

OK now, back to my LED Grow Journal. Here are the day 50 pictures. Like I said, we can't really see any seeds on these plants yet, but there's no doubt they've been pollinated to some degree. Still for pregnant girls, they are damn attractive! I still love them!

  19. Sad (ish) news about the hermies. However on the bright side the seeds you get should produce females and they're always worth having. ;)

  20. I feel ya MX. Sounds exactly like my situation. I pulled 3/4 of my plants and are letting the rest finish while i veg my Nepal Kush and Big Buddha Bubble Cheese.

I had nanners on at least 10 plants, its seeded now, just like yours.

I harvested about a QP from the girls before the seeds really took hold, the bud is pretty good but airy as shit.

I wonder if the plants were hermie to begin with? I guess you never know with bagseed, but it's not like i didnt stress them out either.

good luck with your final harvest, ill keep following.
