Insomnia

Discussion in 'Marijuana Consumption Q&A' started by Thanks, Feb 11, 2018.

  1. Hi, very new to medical marijuana. I have been using to combat insomnia and have found good strains and what not. Problem is that I find sometimes I wake up feeling awful. I’m thinking I’ve just done to much when I don’t feel well. But then again I’m yet to wake feeling good and refreshed. So question is how medicated do you need to be for sleep? When I vaporize less at bedtime I find I wake in the middle of the night and need to do more to keep sleeping. When I vaporize more at bedtime I find I can sleep through most of the night but I wake feeling awful. I use a firefly 2 @ 205*c or 400*f. Any suggestions? Edibles are not an option for me.

    Thanks

  2. If you wake up feeling awful or don't sleep through the night then I humbly suggest that you have not found a good strain and would encourage you to continue looking for heavy indicas or CBD strains

  3. I didn’t know cbd strains are useful for insomnia. Do you need to do a lot more of a cbd strain to make it work. I was under the impression that cbd was alerting. I know the strains I have I feel relaxed but usually more alert. I’m in Canada so a bit limited to my lp, but I have a straight cbd strain and cbd kush and cbd skunk haze. Other strains I have and tried are: pink kush, Girl Scout cookies, blue widow, Bubba Kush, OG Kush, Burmese kush, tangerine dream, blueberry, Sensi Star, Hindu Kush, Hindu skunk, green crack. Some work better than others but all I wake feeling awful and not rested. I have been to a sleep specialist and told I do not have any health problem besides chronic insomnia. Do you consume more at bedtime? Or is it more about the strain? I have tried medicating different amounts but find that lesser amounts are not near as sedating so I usually go a puff or two more. Which will usually put me to sleep after 30 mins to an hour. I usually wake about 3-4 hours later feeling very groggy but unable to sleep so I then medicate again but usually only a couple puffs does the trick. But everyday I wake up feeling awful and very out of it. Unfortunately I’m so new to all this I think that’s most the problem. Although I have had a lot of success medicating for severe ibs and ptsd. Thanks for all the help.

    Thanks

  5. Green crack and anything with skunk or haze tend to be the kind that give energy. There is a strain called harlequin that is a very nice relaxing low potency stream that you may find enjoyable.
But for insomnia I suggest a purple og Kush.
Granddaddy Purple or GDP as it is also known is probably but number one strain I would recommend you trying. The size of the dose definitely matters but the biggest Factor is the strain. There is no hangover associated with cannabis use and I suspect the groggy feeling you have is from the fitful night sleep you are having. Also I am not sure if you are vaping or smoking flower but I do not recommend the liquid vape pens at all for treating insomnia. However if you are particularly sensitive then smoking flower before bed could cause some problems as well so I think your best bet is to use a dry herb vaporizer such as a volcano or a firefly or a ruva as these will give you the benefit of the terpenes and the CBD and THC without nearly the harshness of combusting plant material. There are many mail-order services starting up now in Canada and honestly I think Edibles are the way to go for insomnia if you can manage getting ahold of professionally made edibles. But if that is not an option then smoking flower or a dry herb vaporizer is the best way to go and I would not do it right before bedtime I would smoke at least an hour before you plan on going to bed. Best of luck to you on your journey to restful sleep. I hope you find what you are looking for.

  6. I'm sure you've tried these things and if not they are a must. My wife and I struggle with insomnia and these things def help:

No daytime napping!- This is huge
    No caffeine after 3:00 pm
    No sweets after 3:00 pm
No pets on the bed...any slightest movement or sound wakes me up. (Ear plugs help too)
Exercise- especially running. An exhausted body shuts down easier
Room temp, TV off and darkened room
Don"t go to bed without showering- this one is also a must for me

That's all I can think of right now. You might be way past this point but if not try them. Helped me.

Oh and don't use ambien. It knocks you out for the night but I always get up exhausted, then you cant even get shitty sleep without it. Just stay away from it Trust me.

  7. Gabapentin a prescription medication works well for sleep. I've had insomnia my entire life.

I agree that edibles are best for sleep. I would not buy them though. I would make them. Look up BrassnWood's method cause I made some brownies using his method that knocked me out cold for the entire night. Any edibles I've bought at a dispensary did absolutely nothing for me.

You definitely want an Indica and stay away from Sativa at night.

  8. What's so funny is that I grew Copacabana and made Edibles out of it and coconut oil and I've got four friends that don't sleep very well and they're sleeping like babies on this sativa juice go figure

  10. Thanks for the reply. I’m very limited as a medical patient to what I can get from my lp. Is there a way to gauge dosage as in what you consider a sleep dosage? I’m currently using Hindu Kush and taking 6 puffs each puff 10 seconds long from my firefly 2 @ 205 degrees Celsius. It makes me feel very high. But maybe cause I’m new to this I’m doing to little or to much unsure how to gauge it. I would like to try all the things you are suggesting but unfortunately I have to stay with what’s legal as venturing outside my lp would risk myself as a professional in my community. Your input is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks
