I need HELP/ADVICE with AIR COOLED Vent Hoods...1000 Watt HPS

Discussion in 'Growing Marijuana Indoors' started by HippieGardner, Mar 22, 2010.

  1. im having problems cooling my attic grow room, especially with a 1000 wattt HPS. i have tapped into the central air to supply the room, but im not noticing much difference at all.

my question is, would i be better off using the cool air to run through the light and try to help control the temp in the room by trying to make the light run cooler? its hot as a mo fo when she starts cookin...
basically how much will this help with keeping this room cool if i, sacrifice using the cool air blowing into the room freely, and push it through the hood of the 1000 watt HPS.

im also wandering if i use my 4" inline duct fan to blow the cool air through the hood or use it to "suck" the air through the hood....does it even matter? it has a little pressure to begin with since it is coming from the central house unit.

i was thinking of tapping into another line to give another vent of free blowing air..just becoming alot of work.

i just cant afford a portable a/c right now, so im gonna have to make this work. thats where the good knowlegde of the kind folk of GC come in. i appreciate all the help, and as usual give rep to anyone who really takes a sec and helps.

i attached a few pics to kinda show what i have going on..i have plenty exhaust and fans blowing...just incase you were wandering.
and as i said in other posts lately the temps have spiked around 95 or so...

  4. Hey man no probelm glad to help. BTW what is rep? I see +rep everywhere I know its reputation but where does it show up? Still a GC noob :)

  5. it is the old blue phone looking thingy button next to the word "permalink". it is for the people who reply to your posts, or posters to give to those who reply. i think it is the way to kinda get a "reputation". basically somebody that has a high rep probably comes with alot of useful correct knowledge. also has taken time to be productive on the forums by helping people.

im kinda new here also and im just figuring it out myself. if you check your acct profile you should see where i sent you rep for your help.

rep is good...you want it and should give it to anyone who takes time to give you any help. you can also give bad rep..reserved for the fools i suppose.

im sure now your confused as shit..i am to all of a sudden...lol my bad...its been a long day and this reply is during my first rips of the day. peace & love my bro. luck to your crop.:smoke:

  6. Well I really hope you're not trying to cool an 1000W bulb with a low cfm duct fan. There's your problem right there if so. If you want a low-cost high CFM DIY, I just finished posting one...

    http://forum.grasscity.com/general-indoor-growing/570972-step-step-how-make-50-lasko-model-4914-into-300-cfm-exhaust-fan-pics.html

Also, you always want to pull air through the lightbulb-side of your aircooled reflector, not pushing cool air through it. A central AC drop venting into the room itself will be more effective.

    Hope this helps, Jah bless.

  7. And if that's all the space you're using for your room, I'd save some serious power and downgrade to a 600W ballast. An 1000W bulb in a 5x5 area like that is a waste to me. 1000 watters are good for full room setups, and even then you're better off getting 2 600 watters for better light spread. Just my opinion.

  8. Also while I'm in your thread, as a former HVAC specialist, if you haven't already of course, you need to line your room with insulation board. That will help keep the cool air inside your room and not disperse out the roof which I am imagining is a bare attic ceiling cept for those annoying ass roofing nails (they suck to get stabbed in the head with, if you're an A/C guy you know what Im talkin bout). Very important to have a barrier between the cool air and the hot air outside, other than plywood that is lol.
