Hps ballast

    hey.
    i have a question about hid lights.
    will any 250w hps bulb run on any 250 w ballast with the appropriate lamp holder/base type ?
    i want to get an hps setup but its costing me too much to have it shipped..more than double the price plus i will have to pay more for duties.
    i have looked around here and finally found some ballasts..i want to know if the hps bulbs for horticultural applications(osram plantastar,Sylvania) can be used with these ballasts..are there any other compatibitity issues to consider..help please..spent alot of time on this and i just want to get on with it...thanks

    No they wont HPS bulbs for HPS ballasts only. MH bulbs for MH ballasts only. There is an exception and that is if you get a "conversion" bulb. With those you can use an MH conversion bulb in an HPS ballast for instance or and HPS conversion bulb in an MH ballast.

    i understand what you are saying...my question is not about mh working on hps..sorry if it was not clear...
    i want to know if any 250 w hps bulb would work on any 250 watt hps ballast..even if i purchased the one that i had linked to the earlier post(local manufacturer)...are there any considerations like holder type etc..will any 250 watt hps ballast run any 250 watt hps bulb...any spectrum/brand etc..that way i can buy the heavy ballast here to save on shipping and the lighter bulbs can be ordered online..

    It should run any 250w HPS bulb. Are you on a 220v circuit?

    My bad I read the question wrong. Yes any brand HPS bulb will work.

    thanks for the replies....i read something about ANSI code on the ushio web site...is this something to consider while purchasing a ballast...or is it general rule of thumb that any 250w hps light will work on any 250w hps ballast..sorry about all the questions...i wanna make sure i get it right the first time itself...

    Not familiar with that but any 250 hps bulb should work in the 250 hps ballast.

    As long as the mogul plugs are the same if not they do make adapters
