How to overcome worry

Discussion in 'Philosophy' started by dattaswami, Nov 15, 2009.

1. How to overcome worry

Try to enjoy the worry
When worry is inevitable, enjoy it and be wise
Even continued happiness leads to mental worry
Thus happiness and worry must be alternative
If you are worried by the continued happiness
You are worried at the cost of the result of your good effort

Instead of this it is better to get worry at the cost of your sin
Let the sin give some trouble and then you worry out of it
In this way the result of the sin is spent and the not the result of good effort
The loss in your present worry may be compensated in the future
But the time lost in your past worry cannot be compensated
Because the life span of any human being is fixed

Your loss may be compensated by million times in the future
But even one second of your lost time can never be compensated
Therefore, understand this and think about the value of the time
This knowledge of the value of time is called as ‘Kala Janana'
Which means the knowledge of the future that you should know,

Which provides the possibility of the compensation of all the loss
Except the loss of time, therefore, time is the most precious.
You may waste anything that can be again procured in the future,
But never waste the time, which you can never compensate.

There are two ways to escape the mental worry in this world
The first way is by obtaining the peace, which is zero
The second way is by achieving the bliss, which is plus
Worry is minus, peace is zero and bliss is plus
To escape minus, either you should be in zero or in plus

Bliss can be obtained only from the Lord in this world
Since Veda says that the Lord alone is bliss “Anando Brahma”
Veda also says that the Lord alone can give you the bliss
“Esha Hyeva Anandayati” this is quite logical in fact
The water is alone cool and so it alone can give coolness
Whatever is said in the Vedas, it is always logical

2. Good shit man.
The way I look at things and escape worry, is I take in to acount all that could happen.
Pick out the worst possible thing, which I know most likely won't even happen. Then think of that situation and think to myself, "If that happens will it really matter in 2 weeks? or even a few months?" most of the time the answer is no, it won't and that helps calm me down.

3. Spiritual Solution for Tensions and Anxiety

Realisation and repeated memorization of the true knowledge is the only one solution for this problem. The ignorance is responsible for all the anxiety and tensions. One should know that every one has climbed the time (Kala), which is the running train. Death is the station at which one has to get down. Then every one should face the Lord for the enquiry.

After the enquiry one will get either permanent happiness or permanent misery. The journey of this train to that station is the human life, which is only a fraction of second when it is compared to the infinite stream of time set up from the beginning of the creation. To think that the life is very long itself is ignorance. Every one is sitting in a closed compartment and realisation of the truth is the window through which every one should peep to find the infinite time stream. Only on such comparison the human life becomes a small fraction of a second. When the realization is absent and when there is no comparison the lifetime appears to be very long. First one should cross this illusion of time. Similarly, the illusion of the place. The earth looks very large under the ignorance.

But if one realises the infinite space of this universe the entire earth is a small fraction of a pinhead. Similarly one gets a comfortable seat and sits on it thinking that he is settled in the life. Another person is moving in the compartment in search of a comfortable seat and according to him he is not settled. But when both these people look out through the window, which is realisation of truth, then both realise that both are moving. Similarly one thinks that his co-passengers are his close relatives and is worried about them. But they get down at their respective stations and do not remember this fellow at all. Nobody remembers their relatives of his previous birth. If one realises that the so-called close relatives like parents, wife, children etc., are only the co-passengers who get down at their stations, he will not have any tension or anxiety about them. He does his duties without these two. Similarly when one thinks that he is his body itself, he feels that diseases damage him.

But if one realises that this body is only a dramatic dress needed for his role in the present drama, he is not worried about the damage of the body. He feels that as if his shirt is damaged. During the journey in the train one must constantly think about the interview and prepare for it. In such case he gets permanent happiness after the enquiry even though he is traveling in a comfortless third class compartment. If one forgets the interview and is attracted by the factors in the closed compartment, he is going to get permanent misery even if he travels by a first class compartment.

Thus, something is good according to the ignorant people and that is bad according to the realised scholars. This world is full of ignorant people and only very few realised scholars are present. Therefore the behaviour of a realised soul is criticized and mocked by the large public. But all the souls will realise the truth after the death when they face the enquiry. But it becomes too late by that time and nothing can be rectified. Thus, a realised scholar never cares for the public and proceeds in the true path decided by the true realisation. Only such true knowledge can remove the tensions and anxiety. The path of devotion can make you forget the pain temporarily for some time. It cannot remove the pain and anxiety on a permanent basis. No other methods like rituals, worships, etc., can solve this problem except the frequent memorization of the true knowledge. True knowledge is the comprehensive outlook of the whole situation i.e., realised by looking through the window of the train. Ignorance is the limited look inside the closed compartment, which is related to the comforts of seats and the bonds of co-passengers.

4. If I can just choose to enjoy worry, why do I need to overcome it in the first place?

5. Just as you enjoy a hot chilly item of food, you can enjoy the misery also. Just as you enjoy the tragic scene in the cinema, you can enjoy the misery in a similar way.

6. If worry is something that you can just nullify and enjoy, then there's no reason for the word to exist. You didn't really answer the question. If I can just do as you suggest, then why do I need to overcome worries at all?

7. enjoy the worry? im sorry but thats a pretty horrible idea, thats just silly mental games.

8. are you just really high?

9. Worry cannot be nullified. You have to undergo. But just like happiness you enjoy, the same way you have to enjoy the worry also.

A paper and pen are sufficient to give a certificate. Similarly the knowledge and devotion, which are also made of nervous energy, are sufficient to attain the grace of God. The attachment to wealth is also a bond like the bonds with your family members. You are sacrificing your attachment to wealth and family members for the sake of God. Already the wealth and your family members are the immovable and movable properties of the Lord. For the sake of God, Shankara sacrificed the attachment to His mother and not sacrificed the mother because she is already a part of the movable property of the Lord. Similarly Gopikas sacrificed their families and butter (wealth) for the sake of the Lord and here also sacrifice of their bonds is the point. All the game is only with these feelings (bonds) which are almost unreal and not with real things. Therefore there need not be any tension regarding the bonds. Your bonds with other souls are unreal compared with the bond with God, just like the bonds in the drama are unreal compared with the bond with the owner of the drama.

The dramatic bonds change from one drama to the other. Similarly the bonds with your souls change from one birth to the other. The bond with God is real and eternal because, even in Maha Pralaya (the final dissolution of the creation) the souls exist in God, which are controlled by Him always. The Master-Servant bond exists always, which is the essence of any other bond also.

10. youre making happiness and worry out to be something seperate from you, as though you are watching it like a movie.

You dont enjoy being happy...you are just happy/joyful, you're just making things confusing for yourself.

How can you worry and be joyful at the same time, once again, makes no sense.

See if you can tell from this definition the reason why I can't accept your proposition that I should enjoy worry. Stop reading here and give it a second. I'll be a few lines down waiting when you're ready.

Okay, here it is: "to torment oneself" with disturbing thoughts. You do it to yourself, and if you can simply just "not" do it to yourself then you never worry and if anyone can do this then there is no reason there should exist a definition for this word. If even one of us could truly do this and somehow teach the rest of us, worry would be an obsolete word that isn't even used. What you're suggesting is not realistic, and may even be something resembling delusion.

Despite all of this, you can't enjoy torment or it isn't torment. Thus any worry you can enjoy wasn't truly a worry to start with.

I enjoy being happy. Yes, I may be just happy, but it's also possible to enjoy that state.

12. Every one desires to have bliss. Bliss means very intensive happiness, which exists continuously. Such bliss exists only with God. To get such bliss, you have to attain the state of God. But the main condition to attain the state of God is not to aspire for that state and hence not to aspire for bliss. One has to start in the spiritual path with this fundamental correction. But every one starts with this fundamental mistake of aspiration for bliss. Some start to achieve the state of God with hidden reference to this bliss. In any way both are one and the same since bliss is possible only for the state of God. You have to get the clue from God only to get such bliss. The clue means the special knowledge (Prajnanam).

The clue is not like the industrial secret, which can be obtained somehow, and then disposing the clue-giver forever. Such disposal cannot harm you because the clue is not at the grace of clue-giver. This clue is special because the application of this clue is simply based on the grace of the clue-giver (God). You have to continuously remain in the divine service of God so that the application of the clue is continuously successful. Therefore, the continuity of the application of this clue to get continuous bliss by maintaining yourself continuously in the state of God is purely based on the grace of God.

The grace of God does not end with the handing over of the clue to you. The grace has to continue forever for its continuous successful application. If you are not aiming at this bliss from the beginning and since your aim is only to serve God continuously without aspiring for any fruit including bliss, the point of disposal of God after getting the clue does not arise at all in your case. If you are aiming for the bliss at any time before giving the clue, the clue will not be given by God. Even if you happen to know this clue from some human preachers or from the divine knowledge directly, the clue will not work at all.

Even after getting the clue from God, if your aim turns towards bliss, this clue shall not work from that moment. Even after application of this clue and subsequent attainment of bliss for some time, if your aim turns towards the bliss, the clue stops functioning from that time onwards. I am clearly stressing on this point, which is very important, because the diversion towards bliss is inevitable to human psychology at any time, which is the only possible poision. One should be aware of this point continuously. You have to enjoy the bliss in the state of God, which is granted to you by the grace of God feeling that you are enjoying the bliss since that is the wish of God. By following His wish, God gets pleased. For such pleasure of God only you are enjoying the bliss and at anytime your aim is not the bliss.

For any action (Karma), for any sacrifice (Tyaga) and for any enjoyment (Bhoga) from your side, the basis should be only the wish and pleasure of God. Therefore, if your aim is always to give bliss to God and not to enjoy the bliss, God will be just a mirror reflection of your attitude. Then His aim will not be to enjoy the bliss but to give you the bliss and for the fulfillment of such wish of God, God will not mind to transfer all your sins on to Him and get relieve you from the punishments (if you are unable to enjoy your own punishments in the initial stage. In course of time you may become capable of enjoying the misery in the world and derive bliss from it).

13. God can only be reached through Jesus Christ the anointed one, dont give us this blasphemous and egotistical mumbo jumbo.

14. Never allow the worry to enter your heart in difficult times. When it knocks the door, shout at it to go away. Don't open the doors of the mind. If you allow it, it is a thief which steals away your energy. It is like the dog that steals away your food. It is like the cat that steals away your milk. Food is your energy and milk is your courage. When you loose courage and energy tension is created, which is the source of all chronic diseases. Doctors say that the tension raises the level of lactic acid in the blood, which opens all the doors for all the chronic diseases. The physical health is spoiled because the mind and body are related to each other. The illness in the body affects the mind. The tension in the mind affects the body. Such tension results in the loss of memory and loss of intelligence.

In such state you are completely inefficient to plan for the solution. Your body is incapable of executing any plan. The worry cannot solve the problem and moreover it weakens you so that you will become permanently incapable to solve the problem.

Therefore neither should you run away from the life nor should allow the worry to enter your mind. If your realization about the unreality of the cinema, which is this life, continues, instead of worry, you can enjoy the problem in your life, which is as good as a tragic scene in the cinema. You may argue that you are involved in the life and not standing outside the life to be a spectator. This argument is not correct. The answer for your argument is that you can enjoy the tragic scene even if you are involved in it just like an actor acting in a drama.

If you are aware that the drama is unreal and if you are aware that you are only acting the role which is also unreal, you can still enjoy the drama as a spectator of the cinema even though you are involved in it.

Whenever you face difficulties and if you have not realized the unreality of the world (forms and feelings), there are two ways to solve your problem. One way is in natural level and the other way is in super natural level. The nature is the separated power from the Lord, which follows the rules of the logic and is called as Prakruti. The nature is separated because it becomes the separate object to be observed by God who is the spectator. God created this universe to see it for His entertainment. Even if He enters the world as human incarnation the spectatorship and entertainment continues because there is no difference between cinema and drama as far as its unreality is considered. Therefore if your problem is at the level of the nature, try to solve it using your courage and energy without allowing the worry into your mind which steals both these.

15. Firstly, this is a pipe dream. Secondly, ignoring your worries is bad for you. We worry for a reason. When the gazelle worries about being jumped by a lion, that worry serves it. If it chose to ignore that worry, it would be captured and consumed. At least if it is paranoid about being lion food, it survives longer as a result. If you choose to ignore your worries, your inaction is likely to contribute to whatever circumstance you worry about.

still doesnt make any sense...in the end youre just happy/joyful, its redundant, its like a dog chasing its tail. happiness and joy is the same thing.

17. Perhaps, perhaps not. Despite the possibility, what I said is true.

18. Enjoy the misery

You are trying to remove the problems but the problems are only your real friends in the spiritual line. The constant existence of problems will activate you and suppress your egoism creating a favorable atmosphere for the devotion to God. The happiness will make you proud and lazy and you will be deviated from the spiritual line. Therefore scholars like to enjoy the problems which are the guiding forces in the spiritual line. Kunti asked for existence of problems continuously as a boon from Krishna. The real tears will come in misery only while praying the God. This human life is obtained as rare chance after a long time of passing through several lives of animals. Thus the animal nature is concentrated in us and the constant presence of beating stick is necessary for us to grow in the right spiritual path. Mere knowledge through words will not bring realization.

From this point also avoiding the enjoyment of punishments is also not correct for the spiritual progress. The realized soul invites difficulties for the sake of spiritual progress. An ignorant soul tries to avoid the difficulties and invites happiness by praying God. God brings back the results of good deeds arranged in the future life cycles with reduced value like a pre-matured deposit. By this the future cycle becomes full of misery only. Sometimes we find people who are hit with misery from birth to death. These were the people who pressed God for happiness and their happiness of previous births was the fruits of good deeds drawn from the present life cycle. God arranges every human life with alternating fruits of good and bad deeds like meals with alternating sweet and hot dishes. A liberated soul invites both happiness and misery in alternating way for full entertainment.

The happiness derived from such entertainment is continuous and is called as Ananda. Nanda means happiness. The letter ‘A' before Nanda means continuity (Aasamantaat). The word Sukham denotes happiness which is always temporary. It disappears when misery appears. But Ananda is continuous happiness, if you can enjoy the misery also like a hot dish. A spiritual aspirant who aims at the grace of God wants to perform penance which is a rigorous Saadhana. While doing penance you create difficulties artificially by litting the fire around you. This means spiritual aspirant wants continuous misery as the guiding force.

The happiness and richness induce egoism and inertness which are obstacles of spiritual Saadhana. You will wonder to hear the special worship performed by Me sometime back in which I uttered the Sankalpa which states that I should get severe difficulties and poverty so that Jnana, Bhakti and Vairagya (spiritual knowledge, devotion and detachment) will improve in Me. Thus if you are a realized soul, you will invite difficulties as your spiritual guru. If you are a liberated soul you will invite both for entertainment. If you go to a picture, you like to see scenes of both happiness and misery. When you take meals you like both sweet and hot dishes. Then why are you not inviting both misery and happiness in your life for entertainment? The entire creation created by God for entertainment is a mixture of day & night, summer & winter, birth & death, happiness & misery etc. The equality in the entertainment of both is called as Yoga according to the Gita (samatvam yoga uchyate).

19. In otherwords, worry and misery don't exist. It's all in your mind and you simply deny yourself and stop thinking or feeling.

Drink the kool-aid, it will all be better soon.

20. Getting 'worried' is my brain's way of telling me that there is something I need to pay special attention to and take into careful consideration.

If I suddenly stopped becoming worried then I'd most likely lack any strong sense of judgment and my life would most likely go downhill.

But depression . . . that's something I can do without.
