how does soap work?

  1. does any one know how soap works.
    i always burn and take a shower...it feels hella good. but i was thinking about that this morning in the shower and couldnt figure it out.

    so. how does soap work.

    One side of the soap molecule is hydrophobic (doesn't like water) and one side is hydrophilic (likes water) so one side of the soap molecule attaches to things that also don't like water (which would not get washed away by water without the soap) and also attaches to water on the other end, thereby allowing it to wash away.

  5. Yep... basically it binds with oils and dirt and they get rinsed away down the drain.

    I make soap as a hobby. Dangerous chemicals are fun!
