how do jobs drug test

My best advice to you is to just stop smoking until after the drug test cause some companies might drug test you right away and you dont want to risk failing it. Congrats on the job btw

 

After the interview, and before your first day of work. At least that's what Target did when I worked there 3 or 4 months ago.

 

During the interview he will take a blood sample from you

 

Every pre-employment related test I've taken required me to schedule an appointment to go to a clinic, empty your pockets and piss in a cup. Then you have to sign a bunch of paperwork authorizing the release of your test results to your employer.
The only "on the spot" tests I ever dealt with was when I was working for the feds. They just pulled me "randomly", escorted me to a dedicated restroom, had me empty my pockets, piss in a cup, and take a breathalyser (alcohol only).

Some places might do blood and/or hair samples, but it's far more expensive and time consuming than most employers would care to pay for.

Drug testing is quite possibly one of the largest money rackets next to pharmaceuticals and private correctional facilities.

Not saying you're not 18, but if you haven't had your first job yet... then you have to be pretty young. My first job was when I was 15.

The test would happen later, usually at another location. Companies have contracts with testing companies (there are drug testing companies haha). You go there, wait a little bit, piss in a cup and leave.

 

hey, i'm assuming you're a girl, so just sneak some clean pee in if you're that worried. you can get a cheap drug test, test yourself a few times and if you aren't getting the results you want have someone come to the test with you so they can give you a sample to take in with you.

for jobs that I have had requiring a DT, its usually within a 48hr time period that you have to visit the test site (Quest Diagnostics was where I went). I didn't smoke at the time so I was good, but they didn't check me or have me take off my clothes. I just went in, gave my sample, set it on some counter in there and i was out.

ETA: well I can't say jobs (plural) because only one job drug tested me. But like I said, that was after my interview I was given the paperwork to go within 2 days.

I work at a Sonic near Houston, Texas and they don't drug test (it's a good thing, all my co-workers smoke).

OP, there is no hard and fast rule about when and if jobs drug test. Most jobs will ask you to go pee in a cup at somewhere like LabCorp before your start day.

On a side note, my wife once applied art Kroger and they did a swab test there on the spot.

Don't smoke the day before the interview and the day, and the day of brush the hell out of your teeth, use strong mouthwash, then use it again soon before the interview... That will cover you for a swab. Also, I'd consider having synthetic urine ready to go just in case.

I'm sure every place is a little different, but every job I've had that drug tested always told you about it right after they decide they want you... sorta like, "Ok, the job is yours, your start date is X. Report here for a drug test before your start date."
